RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I
Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:
- Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
- Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
- Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
- Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
- Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
- Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
- Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
- Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
- Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
- Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
- Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
- Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
- Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
- Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
- Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
- Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
- Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.
To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

Do you know if these are the mobile labs operated by the Arctic Research Foundation. They are up near the CHARS and I think I saw another by the North Warning Site. Interface administrator changes
- Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.

RFC Notice
Hello, this notice is for everyone who took part in the March 2024 AfD on lists of airline destinations. I have started a new RfC on the subject. Please stop using AI slop articles as sources, as you did at CRV7. The source you cited says that this rocket equipped the Harrier GR7, which was retired in 2011. Hence according to it the United Kingdom should be in the "Former operators" section, not the "current" one. I have replaced the article you cited with a WP:RS for the United Kingdom entry, and removed the citation for the United States entry. Thank you. BilletsMauves€500 16:27, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
Tomorrow's meetup
Hi there. I prepared my little "presentation" that includes a bunch of Wikipedia historical "trivia". I know I won't be able to stay all day; probably 2.5 hours is my limit. Is it better for me to show up and do that early in the day (before lunch), or later in the day in the "trivia" slot? I'm fine with either, and I really do understand the restraints of the room size, so let me know. If I don't hear from you, I'll come early, but I suspect that might be the more crowded period. Risker (talk) 16:17, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- How long is your trivia presentation? I plan on introducing Wikivoyage Asian Month contest, followed by a video call to a Nunavut editor (User:CambridgeBayWeather) from around 11:30am to noon (all times Eastern Time). I do need ~10 mins beforehand (i.e. 11:20am to 11:30am) to set up. The call itself may lengthen or shorten depending on the questions in the room (and online, if editors in YT/NT/NU hop onto the video call meeting link and ask questions). Other than the Nunavut video call that is scheduled, I'm flexible with my schedule and presentation. Would you like to slot into the noon to 12:30pm? Or go before my contest intro at 10:30am? I believe User:Z1720 is doing the 2:30pm to 3pm trivia section so I don't want to make any promises that will encroach into his timeslot. OhanaUnitedTalk page 21:51, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. It's not exactly a trivia presentation, it's actual historical events presented as a rabbit hole chain - but some of it is definitely on the trivial side. (You'll know when you see it...) I will jump into the noon slot, which gives me a little flexibility if the roads are terrible, as they tend to be after a big freeze-up; I'm coming from well north of the city. The presentation works out to be just about the right length of time to take us to the lunch period, and I can stretch a bit if needed. Risker (talk) 21:57, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- My trivia can take as long or as short as people like. Z1720 (talk) 01:54, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

SimpleFlying source use
Hello there. I wanted to notify you that I've reverted your edits to Nadi International Airport because you added a source called "SimpleFlying". However, at WP:RSN, consensus was formed, see this here, that basically said the source was unreliable and shouldn't be cited. It has also been listed at WP:BADAIRSOURCE for the exact same reason. Also, per WP:BLOGS, since SimpleFlying is a blog, it is largely not acceptable as sources.
I hope you understand and have a good day. Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 01:17, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

The European Destubathon
You are invited to participate in The European Destubathon in April. Almost $3000 in Amazon voucher prizes which can be used to buy books for content, though it can also be treated as an editathon if you're not interested in competing! Minimum content to be added to each article just to ensure that they're over a stub, though longer expansions also welcome. Entries at the end of the contest will be tipped into the 50,000 Destubbing Challenge and European Challenge. Previous contests were really enjoyable and I'm hoping this one will be too! BHG
I think it's extraordinarily poor taste to attack BHG when she cannot reply to defend herself. Grave-dancing. DuncanHill (talk) 22:22, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
OhanaUnited, I have no idea why you would do such a thing. I don't own BHG's talk page, but with no talk page access, nor does anyone. And taking advantage of her lack of right to reply is, as Duncan points out, phenomenonally bad taste. It's not a place for formal, bolded opposes etc, it's not AfD, RfA or an RfC. A user talk page is the usual place for sympathetic editors to talk. That's what's happening. If you disagree with me, file at ANI. Not on that User page. Everyone on that page knows the details of the ArbCom case; they don't need reminding. Cheers. Fortuna, Imperatrix Mundi 23:01, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- @DuncanHill, @Fortuna imperatrix mundi: As one of the editors who did get chased away by BHG's behaviour from the portal space (i.e. first ArbCom case), I am entitled to my opinion on that page just like any other user, including those that support her. I didn't remove any messages that were in support of BHG's return, but Fortuna you chose specifically to remove my message that does not support her return to create a false appearance on the user talk page that those who commented all universally wanted her to return. And yes I will be taking this to ANI shortly for talk page ownership behaviour. OhanaUnitedTalk page 23:23, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – August 2025
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
- Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.
- Administrators can now restrict the "Add a Link" feature to newcomers. The "Add a Link" Structured Task helps new account holders get started with editing. Administrators can configure this setting in the Community Configuration page.

Response time of a Wikijournal
Hi, OhanaUnited I would like to ask you, what's the response time of a Wiki journal, I would like to know if a specific topic is within scope? The Other Karma (talk) 12:34, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, the fastest is to contact the editor in chief of that journal. Due to funding cutback by WMF, we are scaled back this year and had to layoff the admin staff who responds to email inquiries. Which journal are you considering to submit to and what is your submission title? OhanaUnitedTalk page 01:31, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you for your reply. I have been considering an umbrella review on the topic of pornography addiction. As I would like to learn more about this, I am unable to publish it on enWP and deWP due to conflicts. It would fall under the WikiJournal of Psychology, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, but that one is still upcoming, so it would be the WikiJournal of Medicine. The Other Karma (talk) 09:47, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
- Correct. Unfortunately I don't have a timeline for the launch of WikiJournal of Psychology, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Both Medicine and Sciencare potentially within the scope, depending on how your paper's focus. OhanaUnitedTalk page 20:20, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

- After a motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections at WP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g.

Guide to temporary accounts
Hello, OhanaUnited. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
How do temporary accounts work?
- When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern:
~2025-12345-67(a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5). - All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
- A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
- As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
- There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
- There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
Temporary account IP viewer user right
- Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
- Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.
Impact for administrators
- It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
- It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
- Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
Rules about IP information disclosure
- Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
- Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g.
~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR
, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67) - See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.
Useful tools for patrollers
- It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options →
Enable the user info card
- This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
- Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
- Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
- The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:27, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

Adding Review to Talk:WikiJournal Preprints/Diffeology
I've received a first reviewer response to the Diffeology preprint. Can you insert it? The brief review is from John M Lee, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, University of Washington, Seattle, www.math.washington.edu/~lee or johnmlee@uw.edu.
Here's a copy of his review and I will email his full response to you:
"I don't know anything abut diffeologies, so I can't really comment on most of the article. But I do have a couple of small comments about the introductory section, which is about smooth manifolds, something I do know about.
In the section "Calculus on smooth spaces," the authors use the term "chart" to refer to a map from an open subset of R^n into the manifold. But the near-universal convention in the current literature is to consider a chart to be a map from an open subset of the manifold to R^n. Maps in the opposite direction are called 'local parametrizations" (or, less frequently, "coordinate patches").
Also in that section, they refer to curves as maps from R to M, and homotopies as maps from R^2 to M. But we frequently need to consider curves defined only on a subinterval of R, and homotopies are always defined on [0,1]^2, not on all of R^2."

- Thanks Henry. I have posted that review (and the first review) onto the v:Talk:WikiJournal Preprints/Diffeology. Can you please find at least one more peer reviewer because we need more certainty on experts to assess the main contents of the article, beyond the introuction section. Airport destination lists sourcing RfC
Hi there,
I'm leaving this message because you contributed to the recent RfC regarding the inclusion of airport destination lists. As promised, now that that RfC has closed, I've initiated a further discussion about the sourcing standards to be applied to these lists.
If you wish to contribute to the discussion, please do so at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Airport destination lists - sourcing requirements.

At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.

[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Aradicus77&diff=prev&oldid=1339513072] They have also been persistently been re-adding info to Dimes Square pertaining Justin LaPuff and they have themselves admitted they have a conflict of interest with them: [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Humblejones&diff=prev&oldid=1339465175] Aradicus77 (talk) 14:52, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- I think it's best to raise this at the conflict of interest noticeboard. OhanaUnitedTalk page 18:25, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
