Congrats! I have the page watchlisted and have appreciated the steady improvements this month. It's wild how Darger created so much and kept it all to himself. I just had someone send me a photo after they did a nice katsudon for dinner and cannot imagine someone putting so much work into art so inherently private. Thank you today for Algemeyne Entsiklopedye, "about a twelve-volume Yiddish encyclopedia that was published over more than thirty years, during which time most of its audience and many of its editors were killed in the Holocaust, and the project transformed from a fairly typical general-purpose encyclopedia to a memorial to prior Jewish life and culture. I'll note that this article relies quite heavily on one author—Barry Trachtenberg—as he is the only scholar to do extensive scholarly analysis of the text; were it not for him, this article would be little more than a stub."! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:43, 22 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Avi Loeb entry in WP:RSP

Hi, first of all thank you for closing the Avi Loeb RfC at WP:RSN. I've added him to the perennial source list (WP:RSP/X due to overflow) and wanted your two cents about whether the entry accurately summarized your close.

In a 2026 RfC, there was general consensus among editors that Avi Loeb is not a reliable source, nor a subject matter expert within the meaning of WP:SPS, on topics including UFOs, xenobiology, galactic astronomy, aeronautics, and system astronomy. Editors noted his frequent false claims, misuse of the peer-review process and failure to retract claims in the face of disconfirmatory evidence. A minority of editors felt that his work in these fields was usable, especially his peer-reviewed output. There was no consensus about Loeb's reliability as a source on high-redshift astrophysics and cosmology.

Thank you today for The Ladies' Journal, introduced as "a particularly long-running women's magazine in early 20th century China. The May Fourth Movement turned this typical women's magazine featuring housekeeping tips and low-brow romance stories into a surprisingly radical periodical espousing feminism and free love, all under the editorship of a guy who had never written about women's issues in his life but got really really invested in them from this job. He got booted from the job in 1925 after making a special issue on 'new sexual morality', which attracted a lot of negative attention for its endorsement of polyamory. After this, The Ladies' Journal went back to being a pretty normal women's magazine, while Zhang went off and founded one of the Commercial Press's biggest competitors, Kaiming."! - thank you also for more featured content! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:59, 28 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the ping, but...

I'm recusing myself from reviewing. Ever since my last failed FAC, I've decided to boycott the FAC process, for I find the standards demanded for "high quality sources", especially for topics which might not have wider coverage, to be unrealistic. However, I can only wish you the best in getting that article to FA; it would be interesting to see such a topic on the main page (as TFA) one day.Maybe, one day, an article covering a subject in modern day Singapore would pass.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 09:08, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2026 March newsletter

The first round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As some of you may have noticed, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. This point increase has been retroactively applied to all good article reviews for which competitors have claimed points in this round. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 1 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 300 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 7 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 168 good articles, 13 good-topic articles and more than 50 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 14 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 700 reviews. The tournament points table will be updated within the next few days.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Shipping and slash

Hi - congrats on the FA; I have not been at FAC much recently but am sorry I missed reviewing it. It's nice to see it headed for the main page. I'm stopping by out of curiosity to see if you have an opinion about the two related pages slash (fiction) and shipping (fandom). I was initially thinking that the two pages might need to be merged, but then I realized that slash is usually used for same sex relationships these days. Shipping does not seem to be exclusively used for opposite sex relationships, so is slash considered a subset of shipping? Or is slash a term that is no longer used much? The introductions of the two articles aren't definitive about this. (Back in the 1980s I dated someone who was in a group of K/S writers, and while a lot of their work was K/S I gather the zines had their share of stories in which Kirk had a relationship with a beautiful young ensign on her first voyage, so there was certainly some opposite-sex material there.) It's awfully hard to define. Early sources describing shipping as something that people seek to make canonical Shippers prefer the reverse emphasis on the show. Unlike "Slashers" who delight in defying a text they know will never grant their fantasy (Penley, 1991), Shippers, having tasted of what they crave, find fanfic's ameliorative potency dissipated as soon as hopes appear fruitless. (Scodari & Felder 2000)
Technically speaking, slash fic only means homosexual pairings, and most commonly M/M ones (fetishization of gay men in fanworks, particularly in case of heterosexual women writing slash, a genre which indeed has been called “pornography by women, for women". Because of this connotation, the term has definitely started to fall out of use. People still write M/M shipping fics, but they often don't associate it with "slash fiction". So I would call it a subgenre of shipping fanworks. Also, it makes me very happy that Wikipedia allows for conversations like this across generation of experience! Me too! So it sounds as though "slash" as a term gets dropped because of the association with pornographic M/M material, but that material is still written and is called shipping fiction now? And the negative associations of "slash" (interesting that apparently some people still feel that M/M porn is "negative") make the term unattractive even though that same material might still appear under the rubric "shipping"? Great work here! The article was only brought to my attention when Ian queried whether the FACBot would have issues with the name change (It was okay with it). Good to see articles on media fandom. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 23:20, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
