Hello… I will do this review! Bgsu98 (Talk) 14:16, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User:TheDoctorWho: I will do a more thorough review later, but after a cursory read, I notice that you refer to Dick Wolf as "Dick" rather than "Wolf". That clearly should be changed.

Have a great Christmas if I don't talk to you again! Bgsu98 (Talk) 21:17, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Bgsu98:, I've used Dick's first name in most places after introduction to avoid confusion with his son Elliott, who created the show, and with whom he shares a last name. WP:SURNAME doesn't really have any suggestions for this, but if you have any ideas, let me know! Merry Christmas! 🎄🙂 TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:41, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was only making a cursory read, and may have thought that Elliott was also a surname, not realizing there were two Dicks. (Hee-hee) Wolfs. Bgsu98 (Talk) 21:49, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

With regards to our discussion above about two Wolfs, I would make the following changes to the lead:

  • "Ben Watkins later joined as the showrunner and also executive produced the show alongside Walsh, Elliot Wolf, and others."
  • "It is the first streaming television series from Dick Wolf, as well as the first of his to be produced in a half-hour format. The program later shifted its release to Amazon Prime Video. Other members of the cast and crew include those who previously worked with Wolf on his other franchises."
Episodes
  • Does Holt not have a first name?
  • Episode 4 – recommend replacing "cop" with "police officer".
  • Episode 5 – recommend rephrasing "after shift" with "at the end of their shift".
  • Episode 6 – "East Barrio meanwhile, whose leaders believe Smokey gave up maniac, has been having internal conflicts." This entire sentence is awkward.
  • Episode 7 – Too many uses of "then" within a short timeframe.

User:TheDoctorWho: I will continue this review tomorrow, but here are some items you can start to address. Bgsu98 (Talk) 03:48, 26 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

In May 2021, IMDb TV ordered On Call, a half-hour police procedural to be executive produced by Dick Wolf. It is the first scripted streaming television series and the first half-hour drama from Wolf, who has a history of working with broadcast networks. His production company, Wolf Entertainment, as well as Universal Television, ATTN:, and Amazon MGM Studios were attached to produce the show.

2 variety.com Good
3 variety.com Good I do not see mention of ATTN: in any of these sources, but everything else checks out. Please let me know if I've missed it. Found.
All eight episodes were released on January 9, 2025.
14 bleedingcool.com Good This is going to sound extremely pedantic, but the source is from October 31, and says the series "will premiere" on January 9, but does not confirm that the premiere actually took place on January 9. New source added that verifies the statement.
A digital soundtrack album titled On Call (Prime Video Original Series Soundtrack) was released by Lakeshore Records on January 10, 2025, and was accompanied by a single first released on YouTube one day prior.
24 coolmusicltd.com Good What is currently (12/29) source no. 24 is not going to the URL it is supposed to. Please double-check. This has been fixed.
25 filmmusicreporter.com Good I see no mention of a single being released on YouTube. It's there.
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 56% of 16 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5.7/10. The website's consensus reads: "On Call is an undemanding patrol thanks to its half-hour format, but the shorter runtime is about the only new novelty it brings to the cop drama genre."
32 b rottentomatoes.com Good It looks like the data has changed since you wrote the article: 55% of 20 reviews. This has been updated.
Isabella Soares with Collider praised the chemistry between Belisario and Larraccuente's characters, writing that it "sets the tone for the show's more humane approach to the procedural."

User:TheDoctorWho: There are several issues with the sourcing as noted above. Please let me know if you have any questions. Bgsu98 (Talk) 00:20, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Bgsu98: Still need to make it to the lead and episode comments that you left, which I should have time for this week. Regarding the references: I've updated RT and replaced sources for the release dates of the programme and soundtrack; regarding the soundtrack, the YouTube release was sourced to filmmusicreporter, which says "Also listen to the composer’s first track (Long Beach) below" and embeds a YouTube video to the article, itself which has an upload date of the 9th; as for ATTN:, it's in the Deadline source, "The series comes from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television as well as digital studio ATTN:." Take your time; there's no rush! Especially considering this article has been sitting in the queue since April! Bgsu98 (Talk) 12:40, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User:TheDoctorWho: Please double-check what is currently source no. 24. Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:11, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Bgsu98: Resolved source 24, apologies (sometimes my brain gets ahead of my fingers, and in this case I thought I'd already copied the second URL when I updated the two citations last night). 😅 TheDoctorWho (talk) 17:54, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that looks good. Source review passed. Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:00, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Development
  • The same issue with using Dick and Eliot Wolf's first names. See my original suggestion above.
  • Since the series ended up airing on Amazon Prime, you really don't need the sentence "IMDb TV was later rebranded as Amazon Freevee." in the first paragraph.
  • I made some minor copy edits to the prose.

User:TheDoctorWho: That's it; I have no other concerns or suggestions. Let me know when you've had a chance to address these and we'll get this wrapped up for you. Hope you're doing well! Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:09, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Bgsu98: Happy New Year! 🥳 I believe I've addressed everything other than your comment about Prime/Freevee.
Although confusing because they both have Amazon prefixes, the two are separate services. Just trying to compare it to something more widely-known, the change from IMDb TV to Amazon Freevee would be similar to Max rebranding as HBO Max (although if they sold to a different company), while the move from Amazon Freevee to Amazon Prime Video would be comparable to a show moving from Hulu to Disney+ (same owners, but different services). While the two were finally merged in September, at the time of release they still had their own content and models (Prime Video was/is behind a subscription paywall, Freevee wasn't).
