Digital avatars and band activity discussion

With the conclusion of the band's final tour and the digital avatars announced, I figured that while it is still a long ways away from beginning their estimated performances in 2027, that there should be a discussion regarding the band's activity.
As we know, the band stopped being active after their final show, and that the digital avatars will be continuing to perform for them. My argument is that when the avatars begin their performances, the "year active" parameter should not include "2027" as I feel that it could potentially cause some confusion with readers who think that the band have become active again. Digital avatars performing does not mean that the band is active again. Let us take ABBA as an example, as they are using digital avatar versions of themselves. The members were present when the virtual avatars began performances for ABBA Voyage in 2022, and while they were counted as active, they no longer were making any music or touring.
If by chance, the digital avatars go out on tour, I also think that there should be sub-headings in the "Tour" section when the time comes, which separates between the band tours and the digital avatar tours. Otherwise it might confuse readers per my statement in the paragraph above that I mentioned before. That is what I am saying, and would like to see the input from other editors on this. - 100% the avatars are not the actual band. It should always be made completely clear to avoid confusion.★Trekker (talk) 21:34, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- This I definitely agree. I've added a hidden note for the years active parameter in the Infobox to make sure that this is clear when that time comes. HorrorLover555 (talk) 21:32, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
RFC
Based on the discussion above, should the band be counted as 'active' in the infobox when the digital avatars begin performances, or should they not to avoid confusion with readers? HorrorLover555 (talk) 13:24, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Will the avatars be singing simulated songs?· · · Peter Southwood (talk): 16:44, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- More seriously, who are the band? Would an avatar be more authentically a member of a band than a drum machine or a programmed synthesizer? Could it pass the Turing test? I would not think so. If not, then how could the "band" be active if no member is active? I would accept that a simulation is running/active, but the band is not.· · · Peter Southwood (talk): 16:58, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not active I do not think that the band's activity should be noted as active. There is a huge difference between the band actually performing and the digital avatars being set on stage - to note and keep with the sources, the band retired in 2023. HorrorLover555 (talk) 13:33, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not active (invited by the bot) Activity is about what the band is / isn't doing. Not other things such as tribute bands, avatars, AI creations, etc. North8000 (talk) 18:05, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not active At some point, we may wish to coin a unique status for bands that perform using digital avatars and not the flesh-and-blood musicians. For now, "not active." Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:40, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, there may be a status regarding "digital avatars" performances. But that will be left to the WikiProjects for future discussions if they can include something like that or not, like if they should have their own dedicated part in a section on "Tours" or "Concert residencies". In regards to activity on the infobox, we'll leave that to future discussion. HorrorLover555 (talk) 15:05, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
Article to verify the continuation of the band

This article and all current band member articles state that Kiss was disbanded in 2023. This seems not to be the case. See article “There’s a lot in the works for Kiss moving ahead. We’re not touring anymore, but there’s still a ton happening behind the scenes” from MusicRadar (https://www.musicradar.com/artists/theres-a-lot-in-the-works-for-kiss-moving-ahead-were-not-touring-anymore-but-theres-still-a-ton-happening-behind-the-scenes-kiss-guitarist-tommy-thayer-says-the-band-could-still-make-new-music-in-the-future)
This and all other current band member pages might need to change to reflect this, or? ~2025-40192-36 (talk) 11:41, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- The sources that are provided in the article follow along with the statement that Kiss disbanded in 2023, hence the sources provided in the History section, specifically the sub-section "2016–2023: continued activities and final tour". In regards to the comment, we do not know for sure yet if they are actually working on new music, and it is all speculation, as again, it was covered in the sub-section mentioned: "
There had been conflicting stories regarding whether Kiss would record another album. Simmons had said "yes" in interviews, saying that he had songs written and lined up for a new album. Stanley and Thayer disputed this, however, and said that they did not vow to make one and that the band could move forward without new music
". Simmons has also mentioned that Kiss have no plans to record another album, by which he has cited music streams and downloads as factors. The band have been back-and-forth on whether there would be new music or not for a long time, so again, to state, it is all speculation until new music or an album is announced, as even Thayer says in the source provided that he is not sure yet. We need to abide by WP:CRYSTAL and wait until the band actually goes to the recording studio to record new music, hence the use of "could" in the article's headline. While still speculation based on one source, I have gone ahead and added a statement with the source provided, however, just because they are working behind the scenes does not mean they are active again, hence both why as mentioned before that the potential for new music is back-and-forth as the band members change their minds multiple times on if there is, as well as their catalog being sold to Pophouse, and why we will stick to the sources provided in the History section. Partly done Source is added to the History section in the Aftermath sub-section, though for the meantime, it is only one-off performances unless Simmons or Stanley say otherwise on if the band is reunited or not. HorrorLover555 (talk) 14:28, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
