  The usual medical expression is to "suffer". One "suffers" from diabetes mellitus, from heart disease, etc.

  The expression is not a gauge of degree of pain or disability.

  The very word "patient" derives from the Latin "patiens", the present participle of the verb "patior" (“to suffer, endure”). Nihil novi (talk) 23:21, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  Nihil novi, I don't have really really strong feelings about this word. My thinking was: I have autism and it would be presumptuous to say I suffer from autism. it's almost a part of my personality; not something I need to endure necessarily. With schizophrenia I imagine it's much more difficult and closer to suffering (especially in 20th century).
