Easypaisa was founded in 2009 by Telenor Microfinance Bank as a money transfer service through Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) channels.[4] Telenor Microfinance Bank was originally founded as Tameer Microfinance Bank and was acquired by Telenor Pakistan in 2008.[5][6] Later, in 2018, Ant Group also acquired a stake in Telenor Microfinance Bank through its subsidiary Ant Financial.[7][8]

In January 2023, Easypaisa launched the debit card.[9]

In January 2025, Easpaisa received the first digital retail bank licence from the State Bank of Pakistan.[10][11]
