Birth date

@Veg Historian I'm not sure if Bradshaw's birth year is correct, based on what I suspect is her death record here, which lists her age as 76. This would make her birth year as circa 1862. This source lists her birth year as 1863 [1]. Any thoughts? Throughthemind (talk) 21:38, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unrelated, but I found another photo of her here. I can't find the original source without watermark unfortunately. Throughthemind (talk) 21:46, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Other historians that I am in contact with fell into the same mistake with the 1863 birth; it happened to myself before I found the older records and read the original biographies. I have done extensive research into Bradshaw and I have seen her actual birth and marriage records. The 1862 and 1863 dates are both mistakes from recent websites who confused her with another Bradshaw. The freebmd.org is describing a different Bradshaw. This has confused some later writers. One of the earliest biographies of Bradshaw written by William Kingston Fudge in 1932 got the birth-date correct (1859). The Who's Who entry for Bradshaw also lists the 1859 birthdate. At least one modern website has the correct 1859 birthdate [1]. However most modern websites are listing the 1863 death date. It's unfortunate that many websites have repeated the 1863 birth-date without checking records. The reason we know that the 1859 date is correct was because her father was John Cropper from Nottingham and this information is also found on her birth and marriage records. When you look at the other suggested birth dates the information doesn't match up. Veg Historian (talk) 22:04, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the photograph. Unfortunately it will cost £24 for the photo without the watermark. The listed source is an updated 1927 version of this book [2]. The odd thing is that I can't find it online listed anywhere for sale. The closest I have seen is this 1925 version and that is in an Australian library [3]. I will probably end up paying for the photograph because I cannot get any other access. Having read 100s of newspaper articles I have not seen any other photograph of Bradshaw. Of course it is possible there might be one I overlooked, I will take another look tomorrow but photographs are definitely scarce. The quality of the photograph on that link is very good.
