Epidemic Sound is a global royalty-free soundtrack providing company based in Stockholm, Sweden.[2]

The company was established in 2009 by Peer Åström, David Stenmarck, Oscar Höglund, Hjalmar Winbladh and Jan Zachrisson.[3][4]

Epidemic Sound provides a soundtracking solution for global brands and professional creators, offering a catalog of 50,000 tracks and 200,000 sound effects, which are played billions of times daily worldwide. With a direct license model that includes all rights and soundtracking tools, the platform aims to help creators enhance their content. Epidemic Sound collaborates with artists, composers, and producers to expand its catalog across various genres, offering both financial and creative support. [5]

Epidemic Sound has partnered with many different major brands, including Adobe, DaVinci Resolve, iStock, Pinterest, and Canva. The company has raised a total of over $500M in funding over 5 rounds. Their latest equity round raised $450M from Blackstone Group and EQT Growth, which values Epidemic Sound at $1.4 billion.[6] Both SVT and TV4 buy music from Epidemic Sound.[7][8]

Epidemic Sound’s tracks are produced by a roster of artists who are paid:

  1. $1,500–$8,000 per track for each commissioned track (not recouped against future royalties)
  2. a 50/50 split on all music streaming royalties
  3. a soundtrack bonus (USD $2.9 million for 2024).

An artist working for Epidemic Sound earns, on average, USD $60,000 (USD $200,000 for top earners).
