Catch Me If You Can (Russian: Поймай меня, если сможешь, romanized: Poymay menya, yesli smozhesh')[1] is a Russian television mystery music game show inspired by the formats of both Ya vizhu tvoy golos[2][3] and Giọng ải giọng ai,[4] which is a breakaway counterpart[5][6] and unofficial adaptation of the South Korean programme I Can See Your Voice.[7][8] It premiered on Rossiya-1 on 24 May 2024.[9][10]
Gameplay
Format
The game is played in two phases, and based on a modified "battle format" involving two opposing teams — a team of four guest artists (known as "stars") and a team of mystery singers summoning in batches (known as "invaders").[a]
Rounds
Lip sync phase
Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song; good singers mime to a recording of their own, while bad singers mime to a recording by someone else. At the conclusion of "revealing" performances, they are now allowed to talk freely.
If the guest artists guessed the mystery singer right, they get one to three points depending on each sub-round, otherwise the mystery singers did the same points have if they guessed wrong.
- Solo sub-rounds (batches 1–3)
Each mystery singer individually performs a lip sync. At the end of each round, the guest artists are deliberated to predict whether a mystery singer is good or bad. - Showdown sub-rounds (batches 4–6)
A pair of mystery singers, donning in their "work attires", perform a lip sync of their own through a showdown. At the end of each round (until the following one below), the guest artists are deliberated to predict which one of the mystery singers in a single batch is bad. - Trios sub-rounds (batches 7–9)
Divided into three groups of three mystery singers impersonating by a designated artist, each of them have to perform a lip sync of their own.
Dark horse
In the final round, a "surprise" mystery singer dubbed the "dark horse" (Russian: Темная лошадка) is appeared on the "stage of truth", to interrogate both teams of "stars" and "invaders".[a] A highest-scoring team would have the same mechanic as the solo lip sync sub-rounds.
If either guest artists or mystery singers guessed the "dark horse" right, they win 1,000,000 ₽; if either guessed them wrong, the main prize is given to opposing team instead.[a]
Background
As part of CJ ENM's multiple licensing deals related to I Can See Your Voice with Fremantle dated back November 2020, Russian state-owned broadcaster VGTRK was one of them to acquire the rights for producing a local adaptation as Ya vizhu tvoy golos (Russian: Я вижу твой голос),[2][16] which began airing on 14 May 2021.[3] VGTRK was supposedly planned to renew for a second season,[17][7] but it was later decided to continue the show anyway neither of those companies have involved, which is actually considered a domestic response to their invasion of Ukraine.[1][8]
