Castel d'Aiano (Medial Mountain Bolognese: Castèl d'Ajàn) is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Bologna in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, located in the Apennine Mountains about 35 kilometres (22 mi) southwest of Bologna.

Castel d'Aiano borders the following municipalities: Gaggio Montano, Montese, Vergato, Zocca.

In April 1945, while engaged in combat in the area, Bob Dole was wounded by a German shell that struck his right arm.[3][4] Dole's heroic actions during World War II in Castel d'Aiano earned him local folk hero status, and he made regular trips back to the village until his death in 2021.[5]
