1952 – Suurbritannia katsetas esmakordselt tuumarelva.
«Operatsioon Hurricane’ina» ajalukku läinud pomikatsetus toimus Lääne-Austraalia Monte Bello saarte lähistel laguunis. Katsetav relv oli 25 kilotonni TNT ekvivalendise lõhkejõuga plutooniumpomm.
Britid olid oma tuumarelvaprojekti alustanud iseseisvalt juba Teise Maailmasõja ajal, kuid 1943. aastast Quebeci leppega liitusid nad ameeriklaste kuulsa Manhattani Projektiga.
Katsetuste jaoks pandi kokku eriotstarbeline väike laevastik admiral A. D. Torlesse’i juhtimisel. Inglaste peamiseks hirmuks oli, et keegi võib smuugeldada laevaga mõnda nende sadamasse tuumarelva ning hävitada sellega terve sadama. Seetõttu katsetati ka uut relva fregatt Plym’i sisemuses. Plahvatus toimus 2,7 meetrit allpool veepiiri ja jättis veepõhja kuue meetri sügavuse ja 300 meetri laiuse kausikujulise kraatri.
Eduka katsetuse tagajärjel sai Ühendkuningriigist ametlikult maailma kolmas tuumarelva omav jõud.
