Hi Harold Foppele. Indeed Wikipedia:Original research applies. That subject could only be incorporated into Wikipedia if it has been published by a reliable source. There is Shannon number and if there was an equivalent article or section (I haven't looked) about board configurations, you could look up sources and add that information to that location. If the published sources aligned with your Wikiversity findings you would be effectively reworking them into Wikipedia.

The SSDs in a cargo ships was an interesting, if scary, scenario to illustrate combinations. Recently I discovered the number of combinations in a deck of cards and I was wondering if every person on earth (8 billion?) could shuffle a deck perfectly and uniquely in one minute, how many minutes would it take for a duplicate deck to be made. The page has more then one meaning :) First figure out how large the number could be (max. 13^64), second to make such a number understandable, third start shrinking it to electrons and at last shrinking it to Quantum Computing.

As for your question: even with every human producing a unique different shuffle every minute, you’d need on the order of 10^52 years to run out of unique 52-card decks. If shuffles are random, a duplicate is appears sooner but still in the magnitude of 10^18 years, still far longer than the age of the universe. Would you like to see the calculations ? Harold Foppele: I like your enthusiasm, but Wikipedia can only report on stuff. I think you want to be creative, share your ideas, teach, and expand minds - Wikiversity is better suited to that. The way to write an article is to gather all of the sources and summarise what they say. It is not a case of proving 13^64 (or #tons/vessel) but finding sources that discuss the topic and summarising what they say.

About the deck of cards: what about if every person in the world could shuffle a deck at at 6.2 GHz (apparently the highest boost clock rate on a production processor). Can you work some numbers so duplicate occurrence is something conceivable? I also wasn't sure how random is defined. I should find a Wikipedia article to explain it, but for now I must sleep. At 6.2 GHz per person with 8 billion people, a duplicate deck becomes likely (≈50% chance) after ~6.8 million years. To actually generate every possible deck even once would take ~5.2×10⁴⁰ years utterly impossible.

So yes: pushing everyone to 6.2 GHz drops the duplicate-timescale from huge (with one shuffle/minute) down to millions of years. YouTube can be used for minor information if it is an official Youtube channel (definitely not a regular Youtuber's channel though), this is discussed at WP:ABOUTSELF. You will find that nearly all information that is of interest to Wikipedia will be published in a reliable source eventually. I would guess that on 27 November 2025 there will be coverage on Synthesizer V Studio 2 and those sources will end up replacing your citation. I think fixing that John Tobler link in East Florida could be a great first edit for you to make. There is a culture of fix it yourself around here. From the article's Media section, click [edit], then select Tobler's blue link. From there, you can either Edit the link to something like John Tobler (author), or if you think the author is highly unlikely to require a Wikipedia article, remove the link. This is an application of disambiguation.

That method is the VisualEditor. Alternatively you could click [edit source] and change the wikimarkup to [[John Tobler (author)|John Tobler]]. Either way it will look like John Tobler; a red link ready for someone to create a new article. I think my explanation is as clear as mud but the documentation at Help:Introduction_to_editing_with_VisualEditor/3 doesn't seem much better. Just ask me if needed.

You can't break anything on Wikipedia and should not live in fear of bots. An amusing story is that when the first anti-vandalism bot was introduced back in about 2009 it reverted (essentially undid-ited) Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales three times for a perfectly good edit. How are you defining bots? They will typically "bot" in their username. Otherwise, human editors will frequently use gadgets or tools to easily revert vandalism. These tools will generate edit summaries like "Reverted 2 edits by ..." or "Restored revision 1317943504 by ...".

By the way, if you want a challenge, next time you refer to a specific edit like you did with Hollingsworth v. Perry, you can link to it in the discussion - this makes it easier for others to see the exact change you are talking about. It is called a diff.

You visit the edit history of an article, use the radio buttons to select the modification period (it can be more than one edit), display the diff, and copy the url.

I read the petition previously. It opens with the Board Candidate removals which seemed like an egregious misstep by the WMF at first, but (in my opinion) it turns out one candidate was supporting anti-semitic nonsense on social media and the other was trying to flex a university connection that would break the NDA (not that WMF handled that removal well, or that there should be secrets anyway).

I support the petition, but it is very general and meh, I am jaded :-P. I thought the Board used to have four community members, 4 bean counters and Jimbo Wales, but that may have changed. In that scenario, we should all be writing our congressperson (ie commuinty board member) and hoping Jimbo is reasonable (which I think he is). A member-based Foundation would be better still.

I guess the whole problem that brought sparked my Village Pump comments is about communication (this does not mean hire more communications specialists!). If the WMF said 5 years ago that they are targeting readers and the app is going to be a part of that, I would not have been surprised by their VP thread to push it to mobile web visitors. It may be a good strategy, but being in the dark isn't nice - perhaps I would have done some testing and provided feedback, fortunately you already have.

It must be hellish to be a WMF employee at times, with the community's approval rating as low as it is. I will try to be kinder and more constructive. I don't treat municipal workers in the real world that way, but I don't have such a deep understanding of their industry and thus I don't comprehend their disturbing and wasteful activities.

Just the other day I thought that even the rebooted Community Wishlist is adversarial. If their wish is to have more money, or readers, or a higher click through rate on donation banners they should be open and put that in the Wishlist. It should not be WMF versus Community. Your petition is also a wish and could go in a real Wishlist - I imagine you found the petition process rather odd and I wonder how many Spanish/French/German/Japanese/etc editors have read it.

Because you seem like a mover and shaker I will give you my technical strategic goals for the WMF. We (I don't consider Wikipedia an entity) are in the business of knowledge, and these days people are getting that from Google search (there was the unfinished WMF Knowledge Engine), Q&A sites and video content - all of which scream out for wiki-style collaboration. Wikipedia has lost its supreme usefulness, and it is time to expand while the money is still flowing in (I know I dream of new knowledge avenues and they are not free to build, but neither are apps). Plunging into creating a new article on Wikipedia is the most difficult task there is! If you wanted to build a house or a car, would you start by trying to build a house or a car, or would you first learn the essential skills and knowledge?

I would recommend trying to edit current articles, learning how to insert citations and getting familiar with editing. Also, take a look at Wikipedia considers a "noteable" writer (link) for inclusion.

If you have all of your reliable sources ready (books, magazine, newspaper, journal articles, etc) you can follow the process at Wikipedia:Articles for creation.

Hi Noz Davoir. The link Xilina Spathia has actually redirected to Xylina Spathia since 2008. When you click on the Xilina Spathia on your phone, it should take you to the article and show a little popup at the bottom saying "Redirected from...".

I did my usual hack of typing an acronym into the search bar after en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP: (easier on a PC), and found:

• WP:REF - that led to Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Handling_links_in_citations, and
• WP:MOS - Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Links (the Manual of Style generally gives advice on these things)

However, I could not find guidance on wikilinks in citations.

I looked at two recent featured articles (Flag_of_Hong_Kong and SMS_Pommern) and they only seem to wikilink the publication, not the publisher (which I assume is the academic establishmet in your question).

If you re not sure, then I would not link them.

It mentions noticeboards - you may want to post there for a full investigation.

And it mentions placing "{{COI}}" at the top of the article. You can do that by opening Source editor (wikitext) and literally placing that at the top.

You have been using Visual editor. I had a quick look and can't see a way to insert a template (that is what the curly brackets are doing) using that editor.

Hi Noz Davoir. I have modified your most recent comment here and hidden the old edit to avoid any doxxing issue. I know it wasn't intentional, but better to be on the safe side by not revealing personal information. Honestly, no sweat.

I would say your guess about the COI is correct, but User:Edenspiva hasn't edited since 2018 and there are warnings on their talk page from back then. At this stage, we can try and clean up the article (unless it is unsalvagable).

On mobile, if you click the drop down issues box at the top of the article it says:

• This article may be unbalanced towards certain viewpoints. (December 2025)
• This article contains wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information. (December 2025)
• This article needs additional citations for verification. (December 2025)

Which I think covers the issues.

As a side note, feel free to use wikilinks in talk page discussions like this (it is the chain link icon when you create a new message) - just so it is easy for other editors to quickly get to the page you are talking about. :-) I will go with... Hi Rabbanyism, that is a very broad question! I am not sure what "post publishing" means, but Wikipedia articles are built by editors using reliable sources to write content.

For example I have three books about an article and I am going to take notes and add information to expand the content.

You cannot really share your studies if they are original research - you can only use existing, well-regarded sources. However, you can use your expertise from your studies to help you find sources and write content. For example a tunnel engineer could find sources to write about a tunnel article in Wikipedia (although anyone is welcome to edit).

Hi Essy Márquez. The easiest way is to use the VisualEditor (the regular edit button, not source).

Help:VisualEditor#Adding_a_new_reference tries to explain it. You click on the Cite. If you have the url (from an online newspaper article or link to a book) you can put it in the automatic box and the system will try to generate the citation template for you. Otherwise, you can use the Manual tab in Cite and put the information about the source in there.

Wikipedia:Citing sources has lots of information, bit it is hard (even for me) to digest.

If your username is the company name it cannot be used, per Wikipedia:Username_policy#Usernames_implying_shared_use (we need an individual to release copyright on their edits, not a group. Also it may be promotional.). Given you don't have any edits, it would be easier to create a new account rather than get the username changed. Hi @Elnur Amirov, I assume this is about Draft:Elnur Amirov. You should have read Help:Your first article and come across WP:COI (never write an article about yourself) and Wikipedia:Notability (academics) (we need reliable sources discussing the life of a person, we don't include every person because we need to be able to verify all of the information from reliable sources).

Of course you are welcome to edit any article. To find some of interest you could track down a portal, see Wikipedia:Contents/Portals. For example Portal:Medicine or Portal:Music.

Or you can browse through categories. For example at the bottom of Gustav Karl Theodor Friedrich Baermann there are categories including 1877 births | 1950 deaths | German public health doctors | Physicians from Wrocław | ...

@LutherKing 001: it says the article (Draft:David Nwokorie) is probably written by a LLM (like ChatGPT or Claude etc), we don't have time to deal with that approach and delete readily. LLM use not allowed.

Incidentally, all but one of the sources (Premier News) is indicating as unreliable to me. You need reliable sources to write an article. Thoroughly read WP:NBIO.

We do take copyright seriously and free licensing is required. Photos are added to our image repository Wikimedia Commons.

@JohnDorran, this was actually asked by the trademark holder a few years ago: see Teahouse thread, it mentions WP:NEOLOGISM.

You are going to need secondary, independent, reliable sources to write the article. Not everything gets an article, this is covered in Wikipedia: Notability.

What sources have you got for Mocassin Approach? Can this concept fit in another Wikipedia article (a redirect can be created)?

The only sources are interviews with people who have been through leadership and management programmes that used the term, the master's degree thesis from Middlesex University (by the trademark holder), and various correspondence.

It would appear that the term Moccasin Approach® does not yet qualify for entry on Wikipedia. I shall contact the trademark holder and see if he can assist me.

As it says there, you are strongly advised not to edit your boss's page. However, you can make suggestions on the talk page and another editor may edit for you. I did update the marriage info with a date qualifier that indicates it may not be current.

Generally, information that isn't published anywhere can't go in Wikipedia! We need reliable sources for just about everything, especially for articles about living people. The acceptance of the draft does come down to "notability". The previous reviewers were not satisfied. This is a Wikipedia term and not used in the traditional sense. You can read about it at Wikipedia:Notability and Notability (people). Wikipedia wants reliable, secondary, independent sources (typically newspapers/books for an article like this, but I see a TV news service on the article which may be okay) to say something significant about the person. Not just a passing mention.

Your sources are independent, you are reading a pre-made response that encapsulates all of the requirements: show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (my emphasis).

There isn't a second section Wikipedia for subjects that do not meet the notability bar. There may be other websites. There is Wikidata that can hold stats like Major of Portage 1973 - ??

It was most recently rejected for copyright violation, but that was a mistake and no longer a consideration.

Through my The Wikipedia Libary subscription I had a look at a newspaper archive archive. If I found anything substantial, like a write up about Ongley after her 1973 election talking about her background and characteristics, or an article about most her most recent community contribution and a wrap up of her life's contributions I would have added to the draft and published it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I only found passing mentions about her election or Onlgey being quoted for something that did not discuss her biography. The archive may not be complete though.

I would love to see some dates on the years Ongley was a councillor and mayor. That recent mlive article has some hints: elected to serve as mayor of Portage in 1973 (...) She had served two terms on the council, beginning in 1968, and after three terms as mayor she opted to return to that role.
