Banner

Hi @(Oinkers42)! Just wanted to note the banner you used on Pokémon Showdown. 15 of the 42 sources are WP:PRIMARY, which is just over a third. The rest are secondary and independent. I don't believe your banner use was correct in this instance. How many sources are you willing to allow that are primary? 11WB (talk) 17:13, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed two of the primary sources, lowering the number to 13/42. You will notice that most of the primary sources are backed either by sources from websites such as Kotaku and Polygon or academic sources. Some of the primary sources are also only used to verify information such as the name of the author, so I don't agree that the article is not written to the standard required by WP:NPOV. Happy to have a discussion if you disagree with this, but I have removed the banner as I have addressed your concern and removed primary sources that are unnecessary. Thanks! 11WB (talk) 18:54, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia research

Hello I'm a student from LUISS university in Rome and I'm working on a presentation based on wikipedia's crowdsourcing process and one part of the work is to put myself in the shoes of a wikipedia contributor and find out some feeling he receives when editing or writing pages. The questions I would like to receive answers on are the following:
  1. What does the editor think and feel:
  2. What does the editor say and do:
  3. What does the editor hear and see (about its surroundings):
  4. What are his pains (what type of frustration does the user feel when contributing):
  5. What are his gains (what does make him feel good when contributing):
Active support is really needed so thanks in advance and have a great day

@Babysharkboss2: Don't worry about it. Totally understandable confusion. (Oinkers42) (talk) 22:03, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

File:Holly Hobbie & Friends title.png

Hi, and Happy New Year! I'm looking over the file named above and it doesn't look pixelated to me, but I'm not discounting your concern. One thing, however. You've been here longer than I and probably already know that Wikipedia doesn't host high-quality images that are under copyright. That can go against the grain, especially for diligent editors with good intent who want to present the subject of an article the best way possible. But Wikipedia can't host copyrighted images in a way that lets them be reproduced from here for commercial gain. With that in mind, I'd really like to work with you to address the issue you have with this image. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 23:15, 3 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya, @(Oinkers42)! Massive respect to you as an Eagle Scout (I know one, IRL). Anyway... If you're too busy to respond, that's okay. Don't. I just didn't want to go ahead and address the image without contacting you, since you're still active and reachable. Stay fabulous! Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 03:22, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Oona Wikiwalker, Sorry for not responding at first. My problem is the screenshot is overly compressed, even for a non-free file. Compare it to something like File:King's Tide (The Owl House) title card.png. In File:King's Tide (The Owl House) title card.png, all of the major details are visible and clear. With File:Holly Hobbie & Friends title.png, some details feel very obscured, particularly the face. (Oinkers42) (talk) 15:42, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's the point. Wikipedia doesn't want to host copyright-protected images that can be copied from here and then reused commercially. Wikipedia isn't the place for highly-detailed images of things with protected rights. Wikipedia is meant to be a free encyclopedia. Everything here is meant to copyrighted to the editors and offered to the public under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license. That basically says anyone can use anything here for any purpose as long as they credit Wikipedia as the source. That doesn't work well when material has to be uploaded here with rights still under protection. But we can do it under a fair-use exemption to copyright law, and the spirit of that exemption is that no one can print a protected image from here on coffee mugs and make bank. That violates the right of the copyright holder to make income from their property.
I used to think like you do. We both want Wikipedia to serve the public the best way. But I met people here who patrol copyright issues and they taught me so much! Please let me know if I'm not making sense or if you doubt what I'm saying. And I will take look at the image and think about it. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 08:38, 6 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, @(Oinkers42). :D I fiddled with it. I sharpened what I could, but there's not much to her face. I removed the flag, but if you don't like the new image, please reflag it. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 09:13, 6 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Fred and Barney Meet the Thing.jpg

Happy New Year, @(Oinkers42)! You flagged this image as needing a better-quality replacement. I've looked into this. You probably already know, but this was an omnibus series containing The New Fred and Barney Show and The Thing. Marvel owns the rights to The Thing and Disney owns Marvel. Hana-Barbara owns the Flintstones and Warner Bros. Discovery owns them. So the Disney and Warner have to agree to release visual representations of The Thing in the context of this series and it seems they haven't. That nasty, overexposed image you've flagged seems to be the one we get. Are you opposed to me removing the flag to get this out of the backlog so that editors who work the backlogs won't keep stumbling over it? Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 09:53, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Oona Wikiwalker The screenshot doesn't need to come from an official release, someone could just take a screenshot of the series title card and then upload it to Wikipedia. The file size can then be automatically reduced by bot. (Oinkers42) (talk) 15:35, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
But the series title card features The Thing, Fred and Barney. That horrible image on the page already is the title card of the omnibus series. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 08:20, 6 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@(Oinkers42) I don't mean to pester you. I think you didn't respond here because you're busy and you're okay with me removing the tag. I'll go ahead and do that. If you're not, just revert my edit or let me know and I'll do it. I hope your new year has been nice so far. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 23:28, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
