My work here focuses on the interactions between the Greco-Roman world and the indigenous populations of the ancient Near East. I am especially interested in how local societies in the Eastern Mediterranean, including Jews, Idumaeans, Samaritans, Syrians, Phoenicians, Nabataeans, Egyptians, and others, adapted to and were influenced by processes of Hellenization and Romanization, with particular attention to religious, political, and social developments from the Hellenistic period through Late Antiquity.

I’m especially interested in:

• Archaeology of the Eastern Mediterranean, with a focus on the Late Hellenistic and Roman East
• Jewish history under Greek and Roman rule, particularly the Second Temple period and the Jewish–Roman wars
• Religious and cultural transformations in Late Antiquity, including Early Christianity, Rabbinic Judaism, and the Christianization of the Roman Empire
• Political, social, and religious developments in the Late Roman and Byzantine Empires
• Classical architecture, early synagogues and churches, and funerary architecture
• Philology and iconography, both insightful tools for deciphering historical and cultural evolutions
