Article expansion on 20 September
In this edit, J29948109 added a substantial amount of text (15k) to the article, expanding the history, but also adding a lot of detail about products. It looks like, on the whole, the edits are beneficial, but there may need to be some editorial pruning done. I'd like to get input from other editors; I'm pinging @Robertsky: because he accepted the draft. —C.Fred (talk) 11:20, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
Also potentially relevant: J29948109's only edit was to this article. SPA does not equate to COI, but it could be easy to draw that inference. —C.Fred (talk) 11:21, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- heya, I accepted the draft as it seems notable enough when I reviewed the draft as it was then. I didn't look too deeply into the contribution history of the editor. But yes, feel free to prune the content. – robertsky (talk) 11:41, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
HI Everyone, In have reverted it back to its last stable version. The article was filled will Peacock terms and started looking like PROMOTIONAL one. I am currently working on gathering more reliable sources in order to expand this article. Synchaas (talk) 19:12, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
Hello to the editorial community governing this page. My name is Jacob P, in my late 20s, based in Singapore and I would like to disclose that I am an individual connected to Group-IB, and have been asked to help maintain a truthful and factual page. I will admit that I am a total newbie when it comes to Wikipedia editing, and while I'm reading the guidelines and researching on my own, I am also willing to learn from the wider editorial community. Please let me know if I might be able to make suggestions for editorial consideration. (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by JacobP2710 (talk • contribs) 07:14, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

A proposed change
Specific text to be added or removed: Remove the word "Russian" from the opening sentence "Group-IB is a Russian cybersecurity company.
Reason for the change: Group-IB is not a Russian cybersecurity company. The following sentence already acknowledges where it was started up (Moscow) and where it is currently based in (Singapore). The company serves a global customer base and they've also got offices in the Netherlands, UAE, Vietnam, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Chile.

* Specific text to be added or removed: Remove "In 2023, it split into two companies with a branch remaining in Moscow branded F.A.C.C.T. Group-IB and a branch in Singapore" and "The Russian and international business were later split with the business sold in April 2023 to Russian management to be branded FACCT. FACCT would market Group-IB products and services while being a separate entity allowing Group-IB to not directly have a presence. Ilya Sachkov maintains his involvement in the Russian business." These edits were not made by me, just to clarify!
Add "but now headquartered in Singapore" to the opening sentence "Group-IB is a cybersecurity company founded in 2003 in Moscow." I've already requested for this edit twice previously, and have provided my supporting evidence there.
Reason for the change: As established in the previous edit in this thread, the company is NOT headquartered in Russia. It is headquartered in Singapore. If we want to get specific, look at the exact quotes and text within this Techcrunch article. (https://techcrunch.com/2023/11/01/group-ib-united-states-expansion/)
Drawing your attention specifically to this: Volkov sold his stake in Group-IB’s Russia-based business to the company’s local management, and the standalone Russian business now operates under the brand F.A.C.C.T. Group-IB’s branding and trademarks will cease to be in operation in Russia by the end of 2023.
According to Mirriam-Webster (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/stand-alone), the definition of standalone is: intended, designed, or able to be used or to function alone or separately : not connected to or requiring connection to something else in order to be used or to function.
The editor used the term branch (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/branch), which is defined as a division of an organization or a separate but dependent part of a central organization.
By these aforementioned definitions, it would then be incorrect to say that F.A.C.C.T is a "branch" of Group-IB.
I would also like to draw your attention to this Reuters article (https://www.reuters.com/technology/cyber-firm-group-ib-finalises-russia-split-spur-global-ambitions-2023-04-20/).
Drawing your attention specifically to this: Volkov has sold his 10% stake in the Russian company, Group-IB said in a statement. The stand-alone Russian business has been sold to local management and will be operating under the new brand F.A.C.C.T.
"All of Group-IB's research and development processes, along with the company's full stack of technologies and products, will be withdrawn from Russia," the group said.
"This process marks the completion of the second stage of the regional business diversification announced by Group-IB in July 2022 ... and the final withdrawal of the Group-IB brand from the Russian market," it said.
Group-IB's withdrawing from Russia also entailed the withdrawing of R&D processes and full stack of tech and products. Yet the edit made says that FACCT would market Group-IB products and services - which is false given that the products and services have been withdrawn.

- It is not clear what changes are requested to be made. Specifically, the sentence or sentences that are to be removed have not been clarified.[1]
- The proposed addition uses language which seems to forecast future events (e.g.,
"FACCT would market Group-IB products and services..."
). If this was not the intent, this sentence needs to be modified. - The claim
"Ilya Sachkov maintains his involvement in the Russian business."
is unclear. Please describe what that "involvement" pertains to. - When ready to proceed with the requested information, kindly change the

Removing incorrect information
Specific text to be added or removed: Add "and currently headquartered in Singapore." after the end of the sentence "Group-IB is a cybersecurity company founded in 2003 in Moscow."

Removing more incorrect information
Specific text to be added or removed: Remove the sentence "In 2023, it split into two companies with a branch remaining in Moscow branded F.A.C.C.T. Group-IB and a branch in Singapore."
Reason for the change: Group-IB has completely exited Russia. F.A.C.C.T is a standalone company that has no relationship with or to Group-IB.

Change Industry: cybercrime to cybersecurity

Remove Key People: Valery Baulin, CEO Moscow and Ilya Sachkov, founder and owner (37.5%)
Remove website: Russia website
Reason for the change:
Group-IB is a cybersecurity company. Cybercrime is what it combats.

Valery Baulin and Ilya Sachkov are not associated with Group-IB in any capacity at this point in time. That being said, agreed that Ilya Sachkov did co-found Group-IB.

Removing repetitive info
Hi there, Jacob here. I've previously declared my COI concerning Group-IB and hence, am using the talk page to request for the following edits:
Group-IB is a cybersecurity company founded in 2003 in Moscow that has its global headquarters in Singapore. In 2023, it split into two companies with a branch remaining in Moscow branded F.A.C.C.T. Group-IB and a branch in Singapore.
The fact that the company was founded in Moscow is already reiterated in the history section. We would like to accurately reflect that the company's global HQ is situated in Singapore and has been as of 2019. Also requesting for the removal of the second sentence in that opening paragraph as there's no evidence to back that statement up. As reinforced, the Singapore office is their Global HQ.
This article mentions that the global HQ is in Singapore, and this one mentions a license they obtained from the Singapore government.
Happy to discuss this with the community further! JacobP2710 (talk) 09:53, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- We should not whitewash this company's ties to the Kremlin. It is still owned by Russians and creating two branches doesn't change the fact that the Russian owners still run the company (the CEO is Russian and his Russian cofounder still owns almost 40% of the company). 86.98.205.68 (talk) 17:50, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

- Thanks STEMinfo. As you can tell, I'm a COI editor who's previously declared as such, and would like to request for some edits to this page to be considered. Here are the edits as per requested:
- Please edit the first paragraph as such:
- *Group-IB is a cybersecurity company founded in 2003 in Moscow, but now has its global headquarters in Singapore.
In 2023, it split into two companies with a branch remaining in Moscow branded F.A.C.C.T. Group-IB and a branch in Singapore. - The evidence is here and here. Whatever Russian entity there was or is, is no longer associated with Group-IB given that it's been sold off. Their global HQ is right here in Singapore. The use of the terminology "branch" is also incorrect and implies that Group-IB is the same as the company in Russia - which is not the case given that the in-country business in Russia was sold off. Happy for you to exercise your discretion, but essentially, there is only one Group-IB, and that's the business HQ-ed in Singapore. JacobP2710 (talk) 11:28, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- @JacobP2710: You didn't ping me, but I'm clearing the request backlog and saw this anyway. You can see that changes I made. STEMinfo (talk) 04:31, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

Updating and expanding History section
Hi, I am the new COI editor for Group-IB and have disclosed my COI on my User page. The History section of this article is a bit outdated and focuses more on the CEO and the company that split off from Group-IB rather than Group-IB itself. I suggest the following additions based on WP:RELEVANCE:
- Please update the first sentence of the History section to read as follows: "Group-IB was co-founded in 2003 by Dmitry Volkov and Ilya Sachkov in Russia to provide cybercrime investigations and digital forensics services to law enforcement agencies and businesses internationally.[1]
Done @DL02042024: Your IT system corrupted the link. I put in the correct one. Also, the link you provided doesn't mention the target markets, so I left that part out. STEMinfo (talk) 21:37, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- Please remove "Valery Baulin, CEO Moscow" from the company card, as he is not an employee of Group-IB after the divestment of our Russian operations.
Done - I can't find any sources to suggest he should be kept in the infobox. STEMinfo (talk) 20:26, 16 July 2025 (UTC) - Please correct the typo "dat sharing agreement" to "data sharing agreement.
Done - Please add to the same section: In 2017, the company became an official INTERPOL Gateway Partner, coordinating the exchange of threat intelligence and connecting local and regional law enforcement with cyber threat operations.[2] In 2019, Group-IB moved its headquarters to Singapore and created its first Digital Crime Resistance Center.[3] In 2023, Group-IB completely exited from the Russian market[4] and divested 100% of its Russian operations, including all assets and business activities conducted with the Russian Federation, to F.A.C.C.T, an independent entity.[5][6] That same year, Group-IB opened a Digital Crimes Resistance Center in Uzbekistan[7] and Thailand,[8] and in 2024, signed an MOU with CyberSecurity Malaysia to provide infrastructure to protect Malaysia's cyber resilience.[9]
Partly done @DL02042024: The first sentence that discussed Trusted Introducer, etc. is sourced with primary sources, and there's no indication that this info is notable enough to include without being promotional. The second sentence was added, but not with Gateway Partner. The source doesn't mention that group. I added the Thailand news. The other items are sourced with corrupted internal links. Feel free to correct and resubmit the outstanding items. STEMinfo (talk) 22:12, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- STEMinfo, thanks for pointing out the corrupted links. I've fixed them and would appreciate you taking the time to look this over again.DL02042024 (talk) 02:35, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
Not done - As far as I can tell, everything has been added except the info that's poorly sourced. The Malaysia and Uzbekistan info is sourced with press releases. When you see the word "leading" in the opening, that's usually a flag for a cut and paste press release. Without independent coverage, there's no case to be made that these items are notable enough to include. Marking answered. If you can find better sources and want to reopen the request, please ping me. STEMinfo (talk) 22:31, 16 July 2025 (UTC)

Singapore huh?
The company is China Tencent’s legal representative, and recently it's trying to censor GreatFire's uncensored WeChat article archive service using legal threats[1].
Singapore is really becoming a popular masking country, like it did for TikTok. Akishima Yuka (talk) 11:28, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- I agree that this company acting as an agent of the Chinese Communist Party should be prominently included in the article. Based on prior discussion, it seems as though the company is trying to whitewash its affiliation with Russia, another authoritarian regime. Wikipedia should not participate in helping China or Russia cover its tracks. jwtmsqeh (talk) 16:47, 5 August 2025 (UTC)

- Looks like we have agreement here to include its work on behalf Tencent and note its association with the CCP.
- However, should this be in the introduction? I think yes. The fact that a company operates as a legal agent on behalf of the Chinese Government to enforce its censorship is a key item to note prominently. It seems they don't agree based on the request below. What do you think @Akishima Yuka @Ssr? jwtmsqeh (talk) 23:22, 17 August 2025 (UTC)

WP:UNDUE
Hi, I noticed that there have been some recent additions to this page that I'd like to address according to WP:UNDUE and WP:CRITS. First, please move the content from its own subsection titled, "Cooperation with..." to the History section. Additionally, the descriptor following Tencent is excessive, and should be removed and I'd like to suggest the following language tweak:
- In July 2025, it was reported that Group-IB was acting as legal agent for Tencent in attempting to remove WeChat, an anti-censorship archive developed by GreatFire.
In the same vein of WP:UNDUE, this information does not seem to belong in the article lead, and I suggest removing it. STEMinfo, you have worked on this page and I'd appreciate you weighing in here as a neutral editor. Thanks DL02042024 (talk) 03:16, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
Done Your summary didn't quite capture the gist of the story. But I'm going to agree that this seems to be a case of trying to WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. I read all the sources and synthesized the info into a more balanced version in the history section. Based on the available coverage, their activity presumably on behalf of client Tencent is certainly not lead-worthy, nor worthy of a standalone section, when it isn't even in the Tencent or WeChat articles. STEMinfo (talk) 23:29, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- @STEMinfo I think it would be more helpful if you participated in the discussion above with other editors instead of implementing edits on behalf of the CCP-linked company. jwtmsqeh (talk) 23:03, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, I think it is absolutely a headline item to highlight that this company acts as legal representative for a Chinese Communist Party entity. jwtmsqeh (talk) 23:17, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
- @jwtmsqeh No worries. I was pinged to help, and it was clear to me that the info didn't belong in the lead, so I invoked WP:BOLD and pulled it out. You can open up an RFC if you feel that strongly about it, and if you make a good argument, you might convince uninvolved editors that you're right. STEMinfo (talk) 00:28, 19 August 2025 (UTC)

I've opened a new topic to clarify some of the confusion about the current status of Group-IB. This Reuters source (see reference 8 in the article) details the accurate information. For your convenience, I have included the relevant quotes below:
- In the lead:
- F.A.C.C.T (now F6) is not the "Russian entity" of Group-IB. The two entities are not under the same leadership, and Group IB has no shares in F.A.C.C.T.
- See: This process marks the completion of the second stage of the regional business diversification announced by Group-IB in July 2022 ... and the final withdrawal of the Group-IB brand from the Russian market," it said. Volkov said Group-IB was now solely focused on non-Russian markets.
- In History:
- Ilya Sachkov is not the "primary shareholder" of Group-IB and F.A.C.C.T. (end of second paragraph). The reference included is both a primary source and does not state that Sachkov is a stakeholder.
- See: Group-IB said Sachkov had sold his 37.5% stake in the Singapore entity to members of top management there...Volkov and Konstantin Chigirev from the senior management team now own 60% in Group-IB, with the remainder distributed between two venture funds from Singapore and Cyprus. Sachkov is F.A.C.C.T.'s major shareholder.
- The first line in the third paragraph ("In December 2023...") is not relevant to the Group-IB article. F.A.C.C.T. is not a "spin-off" company of Group-IB. It is a completely separate entity and is not associated with Group-IB.
- See: The stand-alone Russian business has been sold to local management and will be operating under the new brand F.A.C.C.T...All of Group-IB's research and development processes, along with the company's full stack of technologies and products, will be withdrawn from Russia...
- This source further corroborates this information: Volkov sold his stake in Group-IB’s Russia-based business to the company’s local management, and the standalone Russian business now operates under the brand F.A.C.C.T. Group-IB’s branding and trademarks will cease to be in operation in Russia by the end of 2023.
- Finally, while the circumstances of Ilya Sachkov's arrest occurred during his tenure with Group-IB, the additional details included in the article represent WP:UNDUE and are more appropriate for inclusion on Sachkov's BLP. Thank you for taking the time to parse out the details. I appreciate your collaboration in working toward accuracy in this article. DL02042024 (talk) 10:54, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
WP:NCORP
Hi, after dedicating a lot of time to updating this article, I've realized that the company does not seem to meet WP:NCORP. As it stands, the article focuses more on the company's former CEO and on F.A.C.C.T/F6 - a Russian company which was created when Group-IB divested in 2021. The page references reflect routine coverage of the company, not WP:SIGCOV and after extensive research in an effort to align the page with Wikipedia standards, I have not found stronger, in-depth sources on Group-IB.
The page is protected and I cannot add the deletion tag to the article. If an extended confirmed editor agrees with my assessment and will add the deletion tag, I would be happy to discuss with the community. Thank you DL02042024 (talk) 10:35, 10 September 2025 (UTC)

Possibly to add in more key personnels: - Victor Jiang (CMO, Singapore) - Anastasia Komissarova (Deputy CEO, Singapore)
Also, could we add the launch of its first Cyber Fusion Centre in the Asia-Pacific region, refer to here: https://www.group-ib.com/media-center/press-releases/first-cyber-fusion-center-in-singapore/ Fuggyholic (talk) 09:10, 27 November 2025 (UTC)
Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. You will need to provide reliable sources independent of the subject of the article. Day Creature (talk) 15:06, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
