Notability
Surely there must be more sourced information we can add about Bennett. Right now this article is nothing but "Bernard Bennett was some guy who was outclassed in a couple of tournaments and mostly just got his butt kicked, and never won anything." If this goes to AfD it will be deleted by a landslide. both WP:SNOOKER and WP:CUE want articles on everyone who's ever been a World Championship contender, I think, but we'll have to justify that position to the rest of the WP community by writing better articles than this! — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 15:25, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Joseph Bennett, Bernard Bennett, Paul Bennett - related?
Is there any relationship between these three world-class billiardists of different eras? — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 16:06, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- None mentioned in any sources that I've seen. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:50, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
Length of lead
Agreed that the article needs re-structuring - will try to do this in the next couple of weeks.Macs15 (talk) 21:17, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi, full review to come, but to start
- we have multiple examples of 'he lost 0–20' and 'he lost 10–5' etc, I'd stick to former format but best to be consistent.
- last-16 instead of last=16?
- 1973 World Championship-just the year linked in blue, but for 1974 World Championship all three words are linked in blue-best to be consistent
- I saw a stray castel spelling too
Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 16:14, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
- Part two
- Playing career
- Question? In a clear indication of snooker's rising popularity at this time, over 200 people travelled to Romiley Forum on Easter Monday to watch their match. I can't check the sources for their wording on this, but 200 doesn't seem a huge number to me, and 'clear indication' is quite a strong word. Do we need the first part of this sentence?
- I had a look at the source an the "clear indication of snooker's rising popularity" an editor's commentary rather than what is explicitly in the source. Removed. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 21:34, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- Bennett played in the 1988 event earlier in the article, when the word event is used, 1970 event is bluelinked but here just 1988 is linked. I would try and link 1988 event. Same for 1989 event and 1990. Not an issue when just the year is given
- Amended. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 21:34, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- 1994 world championship needs linking
- I linked 1993 and 1994. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 21:34, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- He partnered with Pat Houlihan for the World Doubles Championship each year from 1982 to 1986; they did not win more than one match in any of the editions. Would change this to - in any of these editions.
- Billiards
- It was the first challenge played after Williams had successfully challenged I would add match after challenge
- Question. He was heavily defeated by Williams, 4,058–9,250 Large margin (5000 points), but when does a defeat become a heavy defeat? I'm not that familiar with billiards scores so if this is a huge margin then okay, but it can fall as commentary in some instances.
- I've reworded to include a quote from Everton and a bit of context. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 22:19, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- When the event was next held, he lost to Everton in the first round, Can we state what year?
- Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 12:37, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- He also won first round matches at the UK Championship to reach the quarter-finals in 1980 against Chris Ross and in 1983 against Greaves. Maybe first-round matches as this is a compound adjective
- "He was one of eight players who formed the Professional Billiards Players' Association in 1969 and 13 years later, then aged 52, he became a founder member of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association." From reference 3 (Independent). Can more be made of this?
- "The source seems to be mistaken. I spent quite a lot of time with sources when I was working on other articles like Rex Williams and World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. I am confident that the Professional Billiard Players Association (originally formd in 1946) was revived in April 1968 (with Bennett as one of the eight "founder" (reviver?) members. The PBPA disaffiliated from the BA&CC from 1 October 1970, and was renamed the WPBSA on 12 December 1970. (Sources are at the WPBSA article.) Unfortunately the WPBSA itself publishes a different version of events. There have been a couple of Southampton-based newspapers added to Newspapers.com recently; I'll check these for any relevant info. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 22:38, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks for making some edits. Regarding the infobox photo, I assume that you are happy with the photo that has been uploaded? It seems to have been taken from a forum but I'm not seeing who actually owns the copyright? Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 06:27, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
- The photo is very similar to one on the cover of the August 1968 Billiards and Snooker magazine - it even has the same patterned curtain (or whatever) and as there are no freely-available images of Bennett available, I'm happy that a fair use one is appropriate. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 16:34, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
- Fine with me, article passes GA criteria. Congrats. 06:34, 20 October 2025 (UTC) Canary757 (talk) 06:34, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
- I didnlt find anything else to add around this. It is perhaps no coincidence that Bennett was allowed to turn professional at the same time as he was seeking to develop a permanent match hall and HQ for the BA&CC, but that all fell through in the next few months.
