The following categories and their sub-categories are all pretty much empty and account for a large number of the issues flagged here:
- Category:U.S. state road transport articles by importance
- Category:U.S. auto trail articles by importance
- Category:Interstate Highway System articles by importance
- Category:U.S. Highway system articles by importance
- Category:U.S. byway articles by importance
Inside, there are currently 413 sub-categories containing only 57 project talk pages that all just redirect to this talk page. Are any of these meant to be filled out? I'm asking before sending them to categories for discussion. Pinging Imzadi1979, HouseBlaster, MSGJ, and Paine Ellsworth who have all recently worked on the template that categorises these pages. Cheers, Aluxosm (talk) 03:20, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- None of these should be empty. So much has been changed around in the banner template of late that I'm not sure what's what anymore. Just to take the third category for example, it's the importance counterpart of Category:Interstate Highway System articles by quality. Just as Talk:Interstate 75 in Michigan is in Category:FA-Class Interstate Highway System articles, it should also be in Category:Mid-importance Interstate Highway System articles. Since it is not, something has been broken in the template. Imzadi 1979 → 04:19, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell, it was this edit that removed the importance ratings. I am pinging HouseBlaster who was heavily involved in that discussion, to see if this was intentional or an oversight — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:53, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- That was most certainly not intentional. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 23:31, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- Happy holidays HouseBlaster & MSGJ! I've been going through Category:WikiProject assessment categories needing attention and this issue is still the reason for most of the entries there. Could you add taking another look at {{WikiProject U.S. Roads}} to your wiki to-do lists for the new year, or point me to someone else who could help? Thanks! - Ack, sorry, this fell off my plate. Let me check a couple of things. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 04:13, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
Done. Once the job queue has done its magic, this should be all sorted. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 05:05, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- Amazing! That's done the trick, thank you so much! Aluxosm (talk) 17:04, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

Road names in junction lists
Has there ever been a national consensus for the junction lists on when to (and when not to) include the road names of intersecting routes? Obviously for most freeway junction lists, I see a clear consensus to only include the name of an intersecting road/highway if said name is explicitly signed on a BGS. However, when it comes to non-freeways, it seems to be a state-by-state variance. On most New York pages, I see them only include road names when it is explicitly signed at that intersection (e.g. for NY 106's page, where NY 106 intersects with I-495, it doesn't include the name "Long Island Expressway" because that isn't signed anywhere physically on the roadway). However, on Pennsylvania pages, I see non-freeway pages including the road names of the roads they intersect regardless of if it is signed or not. Red0ctober22 (talk) 21:46, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

Regarding old exit numbers
I recently posted a question on the Salem Parkway talk tab regarding the old exit numbers. How long before they are dropped or do they not? Please respond and share your opinion, thank you. --WashuOtaku (talk) 23:54, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
