Replace "fictional location" with "collaborative storytelling setting?"
"Fictional location" (in the SD, the disambiguation, and the introduction) describes The Backrooms -literally-, but doesn't really get at the essence of The Backrooms which is more about its abstract phenomenology. I'm not attached to the suggested re-phrasing of "collaborative storytelling," but I do think we should aim for something that addresses the phenomena because therein lies the notability of the topic. The Backrooms → Backrooms – There isn't any other article named "Backrooms", and WP:DEFINITE is quite clear. It is definitely the primary topic over the web series and film of the same name. The only reason to have the redirect is if the song or album is equally important, although for the album "Back Room" and "Backroom" could still be a redirect. - Rename – WP:DEFINITE says "Do not place definite or indefinite articles (the, a, and an) at the beginning of titles unless they are part of a proper name" so the question is whether the name of the backrooms is "Backrooms" or "The Backrooms". Sources cited in the article seem to be split between using "Backrooms" and "The Backrooms" as their name. I don't agree that WP:DEFINITE prohibits "The" in this situation. However I do agree with the renaming because short names are good, simple names are probably easier to link without piping, and there are plenty of precedents for "Backrooms" being used as their name. --Northernhenge (talk) 15:22, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- Support: The article itself refers to the location as "the Backrooms". Also, defaulting to omitting "The" from titles is usually a good idea. (example being the header at the top of this page) Yerlo (talk) 19:24, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose "The" is usually prepended to the name when said as a proper name, so this does not fall under WP:THE as a case for removal. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 14:14, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- Rename to Backrooms (fictional location) and redirect Backrooms to Back room as clear primary redirect. Often spelt this way. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:56, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- Where do I even begin with how bad of a DAB page back room is? Wikipedia is not a search index. That page should be moved to Backrooms (disambiguation) and Backrooms primary redirected here, with the non disambiguations purged completely. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 05:42, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- Dab pages are useful when the same term (backroom / back room / backrooms etc.) is used in different ways in different contexts. In that sense, they are one of Wikipedia’s search tools. Unlike a free-text search, they won't help you find articles that just happen to use those two words together, so dab pages are more help when you know that the term really is used in the context you are interested in, and you want to find the right page. There has to be a limit – it's not a word-association game – but the back room dab page currently stays well within that limit. Other possible entries could include Backstage (theatre) and Storage room but that’s not today's discussion. --Northernhenge (talk) 10:35, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- Forgot to mention that I've added subheadings to the dab page to make the different contexts more obvious. That, of course, is straying into cataloguing, which is another way that dab pages can contribute to Wikipedia's overall search infrastructure. --Northernhenge (talk) 10:40, 2 August 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose "The" is part of the name. Skyshiftertalk 14:04, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- As a fan of The Backrooms, I will tell you now that it is most commonly known as “The Backrooms” collectively and not just “Backrooms”. If you look around online you will see most references use “the” before it including the original 4chan post. There are some use cases such as Kane Parson’s web series where he just uses “Backrooms” but for the most part we refer to it as “The Backrooms”.
- Why not just have a page that is “Backrooms” redirect to “The Backrooms”. That way anyone searching for the name without “the” will still be directed to the correct page. 2001:4479:5A03:3E00:34FF:8AC2:75CE:D8C0 (talk) 12:12, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- Because backroom (with or without a space and/or an s) is too similar to "back room", which has a number of meanings. That leads me to oppose the move as it makes it slightly clearer that this is a specific subculture use of the term, not a general reference to a backroom. --Northernhenge (talk) 23:10, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
Add Backrooms Wallpaper info/finding details
I (RegularlyBlue on YouTube) was able to find an authentic roll of the Backrooms chevron/arrow wallpaper from the 90s, and I've made a full YouTube video describing its story and how I found it. Broogli (a popular Backrooms YouTuber) has also made a video on the topic. I think a nice little summary of the wallpaper's origins and how I found it would be a good addition to this page, especially considering how much of a staple the iconic wallpaper pattern is in the Backrooms fanbase. All necessary info is in mine and Broogli's video on the matter, or I can just provide info here. Thanks! RegularlyBlue (talk) 02:17, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
Semi-protected edit request on 14 October 2025
I propose adding the following links to the "External Links" section:
- https://www.reddit.com/r/backrooms/ - The backrooms as a concept initially grew beyond the original 4Chan post from here.
- https://backrooms.fandom.com/wiki/Backrooms_Wiki - The first wiki to expand on the backrooms and attempts to canonize the concept.
- https://backrooms-wiki.wikidot.com/ - The second main wiki, often considered the authority on the backrooms lore.
- http://liminal-archives.wikidot.com/backrooms-limspace-system - The third wiki with quality content.
Optionally, as sub-bullet to the Fandom link:
- https://backrooms.fandom.com/wiki/Backrooms_Wiki:The_Story_of_the_Backrooms_Wiki - As it is a decent reference to the history of the Fandom Backrooms Wiki.
These are the links I can think of for now. If I think of more, I will create an additional post. Thank you for reading. TheDadams3 (talk) 23:54, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
