Great RidgeThe Great Ridge – This ridge is (almost?) always referred to with the definite article: "The Great Ridge" (e.g. [1], [2], [3]). Per "Other proper names" at WP:NCTHE, I think it should be renamed (cf. The Needles, etc.). Dave.Dunford (talk) 19:07, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong oppose – would "The" be capitalized in running text? No, it would not. Is "The" part of its official name? No, it is not. We don't have The Alps even though no one refers to them as just Alps, because it doesn't meet those criteria. Nor does this article. 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 10:45, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Surely the same objection would apply to The Needles? I would argue that yes, "the" is included in the official name, since it's always used. Nobody calls it "Great Ridge", any more than anyone calls the band "Beatles". Dave.Dunford (talk) 13:31, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In the case of The Needles, the word "the" serves as natural disambiguation from Needles. 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 16:33, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Take the point, but what about The Knott? Dave.Dunford (talk) 16:37, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Same thing: see Knott. 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 20:44, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
