Only if you have time
Hi Samwalton9, I was reminded by this recent series of questionable edits that one of the more commonly discussed issues at SVT has been that of date-related vandalism. More than once the suggestion has been made to create some kind of tag akin to the helpful Filter 391 (perhaps in tandem with something like Filter 249). Unfortunately efforts have kind of stalled. I see from your userpage that you have some experience in this area and I'm curious if you would know how difficult it would be to create such a filter, how one would go about getting it implemented server-wide (and if it's the sort of thing that might be likely to be implemented), or if you're busy then if you know of someone else who would be good to approach about this. Thanks in advance, and there's no rush. Unfortunately this problem isn't one that just started recently and that can be nipped in the bud. -Thibbs (talk) 04:05, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Thibbs: Sorry for the delay on replying! I have a vague memory of discussing date-related vandalism like this with someone before but I can't for the life of me remember where. I haven't got that much time to look at filters at the moment unfortunately, so I'd recommend you post at WP:EF/R or WP:EFN for help with this. Sam Walton (talk) 09:58, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. I was just thinking about this topic again due to this rapid series of unsourced date changes from yesterday. A filter flag of some kind would really be helpful. -Thibbs (talk) 12:07, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Filter log
Dear Samwalton9, I saw that you are editing filters and I have a question for you, my filter log says that when i was creating my userspace that I was a spambot or vandal, I had must have to laugh because that is ofcourse nothing real, can that log also be removed or modified, please? Souce: here Regards, BerendWorst (talk) 14:47, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
- @BerendWorst: Unfortunately there's no way to remove entries from the filter log as far as I'm aware, but I wouldn't worry too much - there's no readily visible tag and anyone who looks at the log in any detail will realise that it's not the case you're a spambot :) Sam Walton (talk) 15:37, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ok,thanks for the information and explanations, it was just a little weird that's all,for now i kepth going to start new articles for this beautiful project.

Edit filter query
Hi Samwalton9; A few months ago, you created Special:AbuseFilter/735 for me to call out edits that alter the owner field of various sport infoboxes. It has helped to make obvious the various acts of vandalism, but now that the NHL (and NBA) are into their playoffs, the number of hits has grown tremendously. I know that you were hesitant to set the filter to deny such edits, but given there have been three dozen hits on the NHL boxes alone over the last 3 1/2 days, I am wondering if it is possible to copy that filter and temporarily deny such edits specifically for {{Infobox NHL team}}? The new filter could be disabled once the playoffs end in late June, and the existing 735 could continue to handle it from there. Thanks, Resolute 19:23, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Resolute: Could you post this to WP:EFN for some second opinions? I'm still seeing some good faith or vandalism-fixing edits there so I'm not personally 100% on setting it to disallow, but some other opinions would be appreciated. Thanks, Sam Walton (talk) 09:56, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Advice on a possible edit filter request
Hello, my friend. How is adminship treating you?
I was wondering about a possible filter request, and thought I'd stop by here to see if it would be something they'd consider.
It would be to detect the introduction/replacement of a (usually) European flag.svg into a non-European place infobox. You see, an odd vandal, quite an LTA one, does this to many articles, suddenly en masse, and it would be good if we could stop him somehow. Examples: [22][23]
Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 15:17, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Anna Frodesiak: Hey, pretty good thanks :) That definitely seems like something an edit filter could help with! I haven't been spending much time on filters recently, lots of other things taking my time at the moment, so you should file a request at WP:EF/R and hopefully someone will get to it. Sam Walton (talk) 15:42, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

Closure request
Not sure if you're doing RfC closures at the moment, but I've been trying to get an RfC closed through the usual channels for ages to no avail, so I'm going to start asking around. Please see this RfC, which began 53 days ago. It is undoubtedly a bit of a mess, but it has had little to no participation for nearly a month, and attempts at using ANRFC have failed. If you've got the time, perhaps you could do the community a favour by closing it out? In advance, much obliged. RGloucester — ☎ 17:00, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
- @RGloucester: Not doing many recently; will take a look at reading through and closing this in the not too distant future if no one gets to it before me. Sam Walton (talk) 17:01, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
