effective number of parties

It would be interesting to calculate the effective number of parties over the decades. Kaihsu (talk) 10:22, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pro-Europeanism/Euroscepticism as position or ideology

Hi everyone, I just saw that @Svito3 had moved all mentions of pro-Europeanism or Euroscepticism from the "ideology" part of the infobox to the "position" field, and I was wondering whether there was a consensus that these were indeed positions and not ideologies. This seems to go against an established consensus (since these qualifiers had been marked as ideologies for so long) and that user does not seem to have a particularly long experience, so it seems relevant to submit this to the community. Taking the liberty to tag @Helper201 who knows a thing or two about this. Julius Schwarz (talk) 05:48, 10 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have thought whether it's proper use of the template field and found some previous discussions, unfortunately inconclusive:

Thanks for the response and the links! I am also not too well-versed on the technicalities between ideologies and positions (I do get the general difference but that's it), but I know that others are, hence the idea to involve the community instead of reverting anything. I assert that the "political position" parameter refers to the position on the left-right spectrum, nothing else. Euroscepticism and Pro-Europeanism are policies more than either ideologies or "positions". Their articles describe them as "political positions" in the sense of "positions of policy", not as in "position on the political spectrum" (political position being a redirect to political spectrum by the way). They should not be in the position parameter of the infoboxes, and it's debatable whether or not they should even be included in "ideology". – GlowstoneUnknown (Talk) 02:04, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I fully support the above user’s conclusion. Pro-EU, anti-EU, those are policy positions, therefore expressions of ideologies, not ideologies in themselves.— Autospark (talk) 08:09, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I support that too. I would still say that Europeanism is an ideology, but that is a separate issue; the main point being that it belongs to "ideology" more than to "political position". Julius Schwarz (talk) 11:51, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, either way, it certainly shouldn't be under "position". – GlowstoneUnknown (Talk) 12:30, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Agreeing and concurring with User:Autospark, please let me add that, as Pro-Europeanism and Euroscepticism are neither political ideologies nor political positions, but policies, they should not be included in any political party infobox in the "ideology" parameter, let alone the "position" one. --Checco (talk) 22:18, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
