That was a typo, fixed! Thanks :) Actualcpscm (talk) 11:50, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Very interesting fact indeed. Congrats on getting an article this big to GA status! Earwig is clear and there are no other concerns I can see so this is good to go.--NØ 18:01, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Actualcpscm: I wonder if the hook should include "former Chancellor of Germany" as a qualifier? Merkel was also the first female Chancellor of Germany. Seems there is much that is interesting about her. But this tidbit about her grandfather is also interesting. Bruxton (talk) 14:14, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lead image

There have been several suggestions for the infobox image, and I’d like to settle this through discussion to reach a consensus. @Hieutrung19 and I reverted the last changes back to Angela Merkel 2019 cropped.jpg (A), which is also used in the sidebar. Noteworthy previous suggestions include Angela Merkel 2023 (cropped).jpg (B) proposed by @Lumofe and @Executive20000, and Angela Merkel 24092007.jpg (C) inserted by @W3shelby.

I’d prefer to stick with an image that depicts her as chancellor and has good resolution and coloration, which is why I favor A. C is quite old and likely not the best choice, while B is slightly blurry, has a lower resolution and overexposure, making it less suitable than the current image.

What are your thoughts on this? Alternatively, what criteria should we consider if we look for a new image that meets all quality standards and aligns with our preferences? –Tobias (talk) 16:38, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there is a specific requirement for an image to be a recent one; if there is such a policy please point me to it. The original 2019 portrait is perfectly fine. She hasn't aged that much, you can still tell clearly that it's the same person, etc., plus obviously the photo was taken around the "height" of her chancellorship. 2A02:C7C:FE2B:5C00:E138:148C:E688:A175 (talk) 19:45, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's my thinking too. I could imagine inserting a more recent picture, but only if it’s truly of higher technical quality—and as far as I can tell now, that doesn’t seem to be the case. –Tobias (talk) 21:10, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 23 August 2025

Change "downsizing of the Bundeswehr that occurred during her tenure.[18][19]" to "Background and early life", by adding

On 9 July 2025, the Catholic University of Portugal (Universidade Católica Portuguesa, UCP), one of the country’s leading universities and a highly regarded institution in Europe, awarded Angela Merkel a Doctorate Honoris Causa at a solemn ceremony in Lisbon.[1] [2] Joaoalmeida123444 (talk) 22:40, 23 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done I don't think this is relevant enough for this article. She received many honorary degrees, too many to mention them all here. See List of awards and honours received by Angela Merkel#Honorary degrees. Feel free to add this degree there. — Chrisahn (talk) 07:59, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Merkel article protected?

I am new here and would like to know why some information was semi-protected (asked for in Aug 2025) as above in particular , and why I cant alter anything in Merkel’s article in general.

I see a blatant error and I cant fix it.

Can I ask who determines what goes into this article or not?

How does one get access to altering this article?

What is the policy for removing errors? Bronsonwasakipchak (talk) 14:05, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The article is probably protected, because of vandalism or copyright violations. Describe the error you found in the article and ask the users with confirmed rights to correct. Grimes2 15:35, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response. I appreciate it. I am not actually new; I have been on wiki before , but not frequently. I had to get a new username because wiki wouldn’t recognise me regardless of what I did. Something to do with authcate(sic) or some such. Bronsonwasakipchak (talk) 04:15, 5 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, you can learn more at Wikipedia:Protection policy. Because Angela Merkel is semi-protected, the table on that page tells us that autoconfirmed editors can make edits to the page. If you make at least 8 additional edits to any page on Wikipedia (including talk pages), you'll be able to make edits to Angela Merkel in 4 days (since you've just registered your account today). If you'd rather not wait, you can make an edit request. Cheers, Suriname0 (talk) 17:32, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you . Your prompt response is appreciated. I will have a good look at the protection policy as you say. I did have a quick look around wiki yesterday, but there are so many pages of help it can be hard to find it within maybe 10 clicks at most.
