Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

(denied)

Wow, the Russian state denied its actions, very rare and notable thing, we better insert it into the infobox to give it that extra WP:UNDUE weight.

Russian denial (are they even denying it anymore?) of little green men isn't close in proportion to the WP:RS reporting the Russian participation in the war, so kindly avoid making a joke out of WP:NPOV by inserting such addendums into infoboxes. Same for International Legion (Ukraine), 1st Battalion International Legion (Ukraine), 2nd International Legion (Ukraine), 3rd Battalion International Legion (Ukraine) and 4th Battalion International Legion (Ukraine).
Start following WP:VERIFY policy, or be reported to WP:AE, entirely up to you. TylerBurden (talk) 08:18, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
the source is literally at the start of the page, but ok Durranistan (talk) 12:16, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Where is your source on 1st Battalion International Legion (Ukraine), 2nd International Legion (Ukraine), 3rd Battalion International Legion (Ukraine) and 4th Battalion International Legion (Ukraine)? TylerBurden (talk) 21:09, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No answer, just continuing with the WP:SYNTH, this time making a claim that the 3rd Battalion International Legion (Ukraine) disbanded on 31 December.. citing a 9 December source. You are asking to be reported at this point. TylerBurden (talk) 06:44, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Can I please ask what's going on because I am very confused Lazarbeem (talk) 06:46, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Lazarbeem I am also quite confused why two editors are both repeatedly violating WP:SYNTH in a very similar manner despite numerous warnings. TylerBurden (talk) 06:57, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your edit warring and pushing Iranian regimes propaganda into the infobox of this article. No editor, besides yourself wants to include the Iranian regime's claims about the alleged number of IRGC goons killed. You've been reverted by numerous others yet you keep pushing this content. Ecrusized (talk) 17:29, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

10 of the casualties are reported from the opposition
"Anti-regime media reported on January 9 that clashes between protesters and security forces in Kermanshah Province killed at least 10 IRGC Ground Forces Nabi Akram Unit members.[14] The Nabi Akram Unit is headquartered in Kermanshah City and is subordinate to the Najaf-e Ashraf Operational Base, which oversees IRGC Ground Forces units in Kermanshah, Hamedan, and Ilam provinces.[15] The deaths of IRGC soldiers are notable because these individuals are from a military force, not the police, and should be more capable in violent situations. Social media users have also reported that the regime has deployed the IRGC in Ilam Province, although the regime has not confirmed this deployment at the time of this writing.[16]"[1]
So if you truly care about the page being "propaganda-free" there would still be government casualties. You're the only editor that wants to remove the facts and your obvious bias is showing Durranistan (talk) 17:39, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The killed IRGC do not belong in this article. They are not being killed by protestors, but Kurdish or Baloch militant/separatists groups. This article is about the protests. Its not about Iran–PJAK conflict, or Sistan and Baluchestan insurgency. By adding those deaths to the infobox, you're playing into the regime's narrative that protestors are violent, even though they are completely unrelated conflicts. Ecrusized (talk) 17:48, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Balochi militant groups are a belligerent of the protests, as seen in the infobox, so any casualties that are conflicted by them should be added. But I don't see how that would make the protests less violent, there are instances of protesters commiting arson and burning down mosques and reported by reliable sources[2] Durranistan (talk) 17:57, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Those were burned by the regime to put the blame on protestors probably. The regime is blood-thirsty, and killed over 200 protestors over the past two days in Tehran alone. Just like it has done in 2019 and 2022. But Khamenei's days are coming to an end. Ecrusized (talk) 18:03, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
whatever the case may be, what we should prioritize is truth via reliable sources, the sources I use (ISW and Agence France Presse) is relatable by Wikipedias standards and ISW is anti-regime by how they portray it as, but they still reported it by using both pro and anti regime media as well as a Norwegian human rights organization that reported the deaths of 2 IRGC members. So it's better to show what's factual than cleaning the image of a faction, whether you support it or not Durranistan (talk) 18:25, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
