Welcome to the drive!
Welcome, welcome, welcome Mooonswimmer! I'm glad that you are joining the June 2025 drive! Please, have a cup of WikiTea, and go cite some articles.

Hey, sorry for the late follow-up. If you are still interested in improving and/or nominating this article, I look forward to it. I took a quick look at the article and I think a couple things that I would note would be to double-check the licenses of the images in the article and to see if the "Influence and media" section needs to be reworked to be something other than a bullet list. (Also, someone else added the Piranesi part to that section a while ago and I'm not sure if that interview source is notable enough for it to be mentioned...) If you need access to any of the sources I used, please let me know and I'll do my best. DanCherek (talk) 14:51, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
Request for review of maintenance tags on Asef Bayat article
Hello Mooonswimmer
This is a follow-up regarding the maintenance templates you added to the Asef Bayat article in January 2023.
I previously pinged you on the article’s talk page, where I have posted a detailed explanation showing that the issues you flagged—lack of inline citations and insufficient sourcing for a living person (BLP)—have been fully addressed. The section is here:
Talk:Asef Bayat#Request for template removal: Inline citations and BLP sourcing resolved
Since there has been no response so far, I’d appreciate it if you could review that section and, if appropriate, remove the templates accordingly.
If I do not hear back within a reasonable timeframe, I will proceed with removing the tags myself, in line with Wikipedia policy.
Thank you, ~~~~ Mahdi Fahimi (talk) 14:08, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

Hi, just a courtesy message to notify you in case you haven't seen the Wikipedia:The World Destubathon contest update in the last few days that we've decided to run the full month until the 16th of July. For those who have been too busy to contribute, we would love some help in reaching 4000 articles by Wednesday night! The article Hanna Barakat has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Request to delete from Hanna
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Bubaque Airport runway.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:Bubaque Airport runway.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 10:55, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

About your DCWC submission
Hey Mooonswimmer, thanks for your participation in the Developing Countries WikiContest! I wanted to let you know I had to decline your ITN submission of Mariuxi Sánchez. Per the scoring rules, you must have contributed significantly to the article at the time of nomination, and you have insufficient authorship to qualify for points. Please let me or one of the other DCWC coordinators know if you have any questions! —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 00:47, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know TechnoSquirrel. Is there a minimum baseline for "significant contribution" in terms of readable prose, even just an approximate, when it comes to these ITN submissions? I appreciate the guidance. Mooonswimmer 01:44, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the question, Mooonswimmer! The scoring rules are intentionally open-ended on this point to allow for calls to be taken on a case-by-case basis. It does advise that "you [do not have] to be the primary author, though it is preferable", so I would aim to submit articles where you've written as much as possible. In this case, the majority of your contribution to the article was within this edit — definitely improvements to the prose, but it seems like there was more copyediting than writing. I hope that helps! —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 01:42, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

DCWC closing update
Two weeks ago, the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest came to a close! After three months of stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard, we have our winners.
vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions), continuing his work on covering abortion in Africa, comes in third with 692 points.
simongraham (submissions) comes in second with 763 points, largely from a slew of good articles about jumping spiders. And returning to the podium for the second year in a row,
BeanieFan11 (submissions) takes the Gold Belt Buckle with a mind-boggling 946 points from his series of articles on sportpersons. Congratulations to our winners!
Amazingly, the award for the most countries covered goes to both
BeanieFan11 (submissions) and simongraham (submissions), who each submitted articles under 30 flags!
BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins for writing the most quality articles (16 good articles). For submitting 16 articles related to El Salvador,
PizzaKing13 (submissions) wins the award for most submissions under one country. The award for most submissions related to women goes to both Spookyaki (submissions) (7 biographies about women) and
vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) (21 related articles). And for the second year, simongraham (submissions) wins for the most reviews, having submitted 21!
Among the participants' contributions were 2 FAs, 5 FLs, 124 GAs, and an uncounted number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...
We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!
Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.
For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.
The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
