Yue question
Apologies if it did seem so, but did my question really appear "unnecessarily argumentative"? — Tenshi! (Talk page) 01:06, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Tenshi - I am the other election monitor and the removal was a joint decision. There were two things that made it appear argumentative. First was that most of the question space was dedicated to commentary rather than the question itself, which is something that was noted in the "Discussion" section of the page by Chaotic. Second is that the question seemed to take Yue's actual note about WP:CPN out of context - They said that they would "like to build up experience by observing the work of veteran administrators" before expanding into WP:CPN in their answer to Q1, so it had already been answered. Like Chaotic said in the "Discussion" section, you are welcome to present the evidence from your question there. ThadeusOfNazereth(he/him)Talk to Me! 01:15, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
- I'll take that into consideration. Thanks both of you. Tenshi! (Talk page) 01:28, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
Wikipedia:25th anniversary
Re Wikipedia:25th anniversary, Chlod has followed up on meta at meta:Talk:Wikipedia 25#Proposed wiki logo does not look good in practice on the logo not actually working. WMF is planning their own banner, unsure how that would link to a local page. Also unclear if the logo can link to the landing page. CMD (talk) 17:09, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
- Logo probably can't link to the landing page. as it's hardcoded to hit the Main Page. As a compromise, we might want to get consensus for a Wikipedia 25 banner (or some form of decor or change the "Welcome to Wikipedia" text) somewhere on the Main Page instead. Hard ask, but it's our few options. CentralNotice banner discussion is also on Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous)/Archive 85#Wikipedia 25th birthday CentralNotice banners FYI. Unblock request
The unblock request template seems to be a bit temperamental. Often I find that what breaks it is when the appellant has posted the request as a reply to something. That indents it with a ':', which somehow makes it render weirdly, either when posted, or latest when you try to review the request. If you manually remove the leading : from it, it often rights itself. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 20:19, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! I ended up figuring out that this was the problem. The other issue (that made it much harder) was that the idletimestamp parameter will break if you preview the page for more than a few seconds, which is... not great for debugging. Well, happy that could be solved! Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 20:20, 9 December 2025 (UTC)

G15 nom of draft; communication intended for user
Hey there, thought it would be easier to this via a talk page than edit summaries. For context, I'd nominated Draft:Frederick B. Thompson for G15 with the note, meaning to include the note:
WP:OAICITE (see: Special:Diff/1326700414), communication for user (in Italian, see: Special:Diff/1326700478)
There are multiple WP:OAICITEs in the edit history for the draft, for example in Diff/1326700414:
:contentReference[oaicite:10]{index=10}The WP:CERTAINLY user communication that you asked about is in Special:Diff/1326700478, where it says "Esempi di riferimenti da incollare nel testo della voce". That translates to "Examples of references to paste into the entry text" or "Examples of references to paste into the text of the article".
Full disclosure, I don't speak Italian myself (but I know Italian speakers that I can ask for a second opinion), so I relied on machine translations. I used Google Translate, Bing Translator and the DuckDuckGo translation (which I think is Bing, but gave a slightly different result). I might of course be wrong here, but to me this reads as communication from a chatbot to the user. --Gurkubondinn (talk) 11:53, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
with the note:
- Actually, I take this part back, the note was missing in Diff/1326706247. At any rate, I meant to include that note. I used Twinkle for the CSD, normally I have been adding
db-g15manually by editing the articles. Looks like the "additonal notes" field in the Twinkle prompt for CSD doesn't work like I assumed. That's my bad, I should have checked. --Gurkubondinn (talk) 12:01, 10 December 2025 (UTC)- Hm, the Twinkle CSD prompt probably does work as I expected it to, because I also used Twinkle for the next draft that I tagged for G15 and that worked as expected. Not sure why it was missing for this one, and I should have checked. Weird, but I'll pay more attention to this next time I use Twinkle for CSD. --Gurkubondinn (talk) 12:05, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- And I also just realized I probably should have put this on Draft talk:Frederick B. Thompson instead of your user talk. Oh well.. --Gurkubondinn (talk) 12:08, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification! Well, that's one more thing that goes in my pile of "things to fix on Twinkle"! Regarding the AI signs, G15 is for unreviewed AI content, so, as they've been removed in later edits, we can assume that the editor made at least a cursory review. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 12:13, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- I actually don't think Twinkle was to blame here, since it worked as expected when I tagged another draft a few minutes later. I vigorously (attempt to) keep notes of what I've tagged for CSD, so I could check them and see that the draft I had tagged after this one had the same
reasonas in my notes. That's also where I got the note that I thought I had left on this one. - To be fair, this draft had some WP:OAICITEs when I saw it and started tagging it. I got sidetracked at some point while looking up the Italian, and the editor had cleaned up these WP:AISIGNS by the time I was done and submitted the tag. But the AfC has been declined now in Diff/1326710427 anyway, so it's all good for now.
- Speaking of Twinkle, I didn't realize you were the maintainer. I'd started reading the source a few days, to see if it would be feasible to add a small feature, but I got sidetracked from that as well. --Gurkubondinn (talk) 12:25, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not the maintainer (@Novem Linguae and @SD0001 are), although I've been working on many of its recent patches! Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 12:37, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hey there. So it sounds like when you try to tag an article G15 and type something in the "Extended reason (optional)" box, Twinkle isn't behaving as expected? If so, can you please try tagging your sandbox as G15 with the note text that is giving you trouble and see if you can reproduce this bug? It could be a template escape thing, for example if your note contains a Pipe (character). Anyway, if you are able to reproduce it by tagging your sandbox, please let us know at WT:TWINKLE (or even better, directly on GitHub). Hope this helps. Happy editing. –Novem Linguae (talk) 14:14, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- My guess is that this was just a case of PEBKAC because a few minutes later, I tagged Draft:Dr. Raj Kumar Rana, also using Twinkle, and that worked as expected.
- If you want to try to reproduce this yourself, this is the exact string that I think that I added to the "Extended reason (optional)" box:
WP:OAICITE (see: Special:Diff/1326700414), communication for user (in Italian, see: Special:Diff/1326700478)
- Otherwise I can try to reproduce this later. Maybe it is a weird string-escape bug like you said. --Gurkubondinn (talk) 14:30, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Novem Linguae I actually pinged you about this a week or so ago at WT:TWINKLE § Added AI-generated tag, reason parameter was dropped. I think I know how to reproduce this issue. NicheSports (talk) 18:37, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- Copy. I replied at WT:TWINKLE. –Novem Linguae (talk) 08:39, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Poliscimk (22:27, 11 December 2025)
Hello. I need your help because there is a maintenance template on a page I have authored that says it is written resume like. The page is a translation of the Macedonian page, and the information is written based upon publicly available and referenced information.
How can I learn more about making it less resume like? I have checked pages of other former politicians and to me they look similar to the one I translated. --Poliscimk (talk) 22:27, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Poliscimk! Listing all of his accomplishments as bullet points is usually something you should avoid, especially when they use the kind of wording you might find on a CV. For example,
Mr. Sazdov was working to complete major capital expenditure projects of which the most important ones are listed below:
shouldn't be there. If independent sources have reported on his activities, you can write about them neutrally, otherwise you don't have to mention every single role.Additionally, can you please clarify your relationship with User:Psazdov? That account was the one to author the page, although I see that you have both worked on it quite a lot. Thanks! Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 23:13, 11 December 2025 (UTC)- Thank you for the suggestions. I went and rewrote few sections of the page. Today I am going to do another review and comparison with other similar pages to make sure the content and context are in a neutral tone. I invite you to read how we write about living people – it's a bit trickier than writing about other topics. Regarding the new Twinkle logo
Hi there! I noticed that you've started changing the Twinkle logo to a new version that you proposed. Though it's popular with a sizeable portion of Twinkle users, many people (like me) object to the current implementation.
Until there's more agreement on what the new logo should be, would you please revert it back to the old one at WP:TW? GrinningIodize (talk) 20:06, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @GrinningIodize! Besides WP:TW, I only changed the Twinkle logo at Template:Twinkle topicon, which Novem reverted once the discussion was reopened. I haven't changed it anywhere else. However, I see that @Steel1943 did change it on some userboxes, and it would be best to discuss it with them instead. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 03:41, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
- At this point, I would say anyone is free to revert any of the changes I made regarding what was mentioned above. In fact, an editor already reverted one of the user box updates. (Essentially, I was attempting to enforce the new logo by replacing instances of the old one, but once again, doing what seems to be uncontroversial causes controversy... nothing new here.) Scripts
So if I were an administrator I would need some scripts to make life easier.
WikiBlame kinda sucks, and it can be useful to know which revisions contain removal/insertion of a specific text string/regex match.
And sometimes you need to look at the behaviour of two parties, chronologically, to see how a conflict evolved.
Note that the lefthand column of File:DiffViewer3.png actually contains stuff like:
Polygnotus User talk:Polygnotus diff 2025-12-11T22:55:36Z
The screenshot tool just refuses to show it for boring technical reasons.
What do you think? Polygnotus (talk) 21:35, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- Both of those look pretty neat! I'm actually surprised we don't have that format for a chronological diff tool, since we already have some tools in that area like Instant Diffs by @Serhio Magpie! Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 21:39, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- In addition, once I'll finish the API I'm working on (that might help for that), I'd be curious about extending the first one with an AI functionality for fuzzy matching/finding additions of text "about a topic". Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 21:41, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- That is a great idea you know where to find me! Polygnotus (talk) 21:42, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- It is pretty funny to see how often the string 'lubricant' was inserted and removed on the Crisco article. Probably a lamest edit wars candidate! Polygnotus (talk) 21:45, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- Instant Diffs is interesting, but for a different usecase; what I am trying to do is to make it easier to follow what multiple users were doing on multiple pages. Polygnotus (talk) 21:44, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- Didn't realize it was for multiple pages! Reminds me a bit of interaction-timeline.toolforge.org or other tools at Wikipedia:Tools#User interaction analysis, although yours is certainly more detailed! Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 21:55, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

Hi @Chaotic Enby, pinging you for some advice regarding WP:AINB § Camoz87 and the corresponding ANI thread. I am surprised the latter didn't get any attention after the it.wiki sysadmin's comments (which I verified, and prompted my ANI filing). Can you take a look and let me know whether you think I have misread anything about what should be done, as well as if I made any mistakes in either filing? FYI - I first became aware of this user two weeks ago, via my daily patrolling of 1346 (hist · log) and 1325 (hist · log), and worked quite hard with this editor on their talk page/article talk pages to help them change their approach. My goal isn't to get people blocked but to address problematic LLM content. Sometimes I conclude a block would be appropriate (as in this case), but there are a lot of happier endings [1][2][3][4][5] etc. Thanks CE. NicheSports (talk) 04:16, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @NicheSports! Thanks a lot for the ping, I'll take a look at that today! Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 13:12, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
Birthday wish page
Seems like some disruptive deletions are being made on Wikipedia talk:25th anniversary/Birthday wishes; also a bunch of messages before were unsigned for some reason grapesurgeon (talk) 22:19, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Left the TA who deleted them a talk page message, I'll add them back with the unsigned template. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 22:23, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
