Appropriate image of childhood home
You can visit what is said to be Haydn's birth home in Rohrau today. However, as Jones and other point out, the building has been thoroughly rebuilt to serve its purpose as a museum, and doesn't give a clear notion of the ruralness of Haydn's background. In particular, the original house had a thatched roof and attached work area, and was situated on a dirt road. So I've replaced the image with an artist's rendering from 1825, which is probably more realistic. This may (or may not) be the image that the dying Beethoven looked at in 1827, exclaiming "just look at the little house, and such a great man was born in it."
All of this may be read in David Wyn Jones's book Life of Haydn (2009). Opus33 (talk) 23:55, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
- Agree with the above. It's an excellent image and much more appropriate for the article than the photo. merlinVtwelve (talk) 04:54, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
