Talk:Eurovision Song Contest 1962

Message of appreciation

Interesting pages, well done! What I have to say is just a minor thing: In German (as, I think, in French), titles (of songs, books, etc.) are not automatically capitalized. For example, it should read "Zwei kleine Italiener" rather than "Zwei Kleine Italiener" (which in German looks really weird). Is this important, or is there some agreement that, as this is the English version of Wikipedia, capitals are okay? --KF 14:46 Feb 9, 2003 (UTC)

As i don't knwo much about foreign languages i just capatalised all (even English) first letters. You may chaneg it if you understand what should be capaatlised etc. -fonzy

Okay, I'll do so whenever I come across a title (rather than doing it systematically). I'm looking forward to the years 1963ff. --KF 15:31 Feb 9, 2003 (UTC)

Ole Mortensen

Ole Mortensen is given as both commentator and spokesperson for Denmark. His role as a commentator seems to be properly sourced, the spokespersons seem unsourced. The Denmark country page says that Mortensen was spokesperson, and that Skat Nørrevig was commentator, without any sources. Should Mortensen in the role as spokesperson be removed ? --EurovisionLibrarian (talk) 15:00, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of the spokesperson content on Wikipedia is unsourced, and most likely should be removed unless a reliable source can be found to verify the claims. The same is still true for the commentators for a lot of articles on here. I spent a good deal trying to find reliable sources for the broadcasts sections, and I do have aspirations to do the same for the jury spokspersons, however you are correct that unsourced information on spokesperson should be removed. Another good job at stitching together sources in multiple languages from multiple European countries. I'm surprised this has sat so, so long at GAN. Ping me when addressed. The only thing I truly want is some of the info from Roxburgh to verify. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 00:30, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know? If you fancy doing so, I always have plenty of GA nominees to review. Just look for the all-uppercase titles in the Television section. Reviews always appreciated.

  • Many thanks once again for picking up one of my articles, especially after quite a wait! I have made some changes as suggested, and left some notes below, Please do get back to me with any points which are still outstanding before you feel confident with passing this article. Of course it's not a quid pro quo, but I do appreciate the push to get back to reviewing GA articles myself in future and to pay it forward; I haven't been in the best position to get editing or contributing in the past few weeks, but once that changes I will for sure consider reviewing more articles, hopefully including a few of yours. :) Sims2aholic8 (talk) 15:14, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Copy changes

Lead

  • French language-songs Should be French-language songs

Participants

  • I made some changes here for grammar. Note that "however" should generally be set off by commas or more as appropriate.

Production and format

  • In the image caption: Jean-Paul Conzemius' stage design should be "Conzemius's" per MOS:'S

Contest overview

  • the UK's Cliff Richard, Germany's Katja Ebstein, Malta's Chiara Siracusa and Serbia's Željko Joksimović Are links merited for every country given its first mention? Obviously, if not for this being 1962, Germany would have already been linked. This to me looks like a lot of links, which is why I ask.
    • I understand where you're coming from. I had felt that the linkage was helpful to the reader, particularly for Malta and Serbia given they were not yet competing in the contest (or in the case of Serbia was not yet a sovereign nation in its own right), but if you feel strongly that it's too much we could scale back the country links here and elsewhere within the articles. • I think this is one of those things that isn't a GA review requirement but is worth considering. I'll leave this to you as food for thought.

Sourcing and spot checks

Is it possible to get the text contents of [24]? There are no issues in the other references.

  • (Just for awareness, I actually just noticed the wrong page numbers were included for the original 24; the original numbers referred to the 1961 contest) The relevant prose for this book ref is below; the rest of the page numbers for this ref are a table with the voting results in the same format as the one included in the article and a voting analysis by the author.
    • "Each country had ten jury members, who would award three points for their favourite song, two points for their second favourite and one point for their third favourite. The points were generally announced in descending order, though a couple of juries announced them in different orders, The juries voted in reverse order to the performance order. The scoreboard was in French. On the United Kingdom jury were [Roxburgh then names the 10 jury members]. The spokesperson was Alex MacIntosh." Sims2aholic8 (talk)

The logo is free in the US but not in Switzerland and is appropriately on enwiki. The other images all come from the Dutch National Archive which has apparently released them CC0. Encouragement (not necessary for GA status): Add alt text.

  • Thanks for the push; I've now added alt text to all images within the article. Sims2aholic8 (talk)
