Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the Dan Taras article, but I have found one and added it for you. Please try and remember to include sources yourself with future edits. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 16:55, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

GiantSnowman. Hi. Are references only needed for the player's height, and not for the other parameters in the infobox? And, one more question: Dan Taras has 5 national team appearances according to national-football-teams.com and eu-football. What is the reason for not including the non-fifa matches? Sørhaug (talk) 18:24, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
WP:INFOBOXREF applies, but height (along with full names) have always been referenced directly in the infobox as they (particularly height) are popular targets for vandals... we do not count non-FIFA games because they are not official. GiantSnowman 20:25, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox stats

Please note that we only include domestic league games in the infobox - so no Cup or Continental matches etc. Please also ensure that when you update the stats you also update the date, using ~~~~~. If you have any questions please ask. GiantSnowman 15:22, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

GiantSnowman. Hi. On what page did I add cup or continental matches in the infobox? I don't recall doing that. I do tend to update the date, but I don't use the five tildes. I tend to write the date "by hand". Is that not recommended? Sørhaug (talk) 15:39, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't added any cup games that I am aware of - it was just a reminder. And yes, five tildes is preferred, per {{Infobox football biography}}. GiantSnowman 16:21, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for fixing this and these mistakes. It was really late at night when I wrote most of the article, so I appreciate you fixing those errors. Mwiqdoh (talk) 20:47, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled granted

Hi Sørhaug, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Seddon talk 00:03, 15 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Norwegian Cup to 1999 goalscorers and referee

Do you have a matches data of the NM Cup until 1999 with a goalscorers and referees? Jolicnikola (talk) 18:30, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Jolicnikola: No, unfortunately. The best one I know is RSSSF, but they only have results (except for the finals). Sørhaug (talk) 07:12, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You have them on a Viking, Rosenborg and a few more clubs's season articles on a Norwegian Wikipedia and on the site stb.guru (for a Stabæk's matches). There were also on lynhistorie.com (for Lyn), but unfortunately, the links are down. Jolicnikola (talk) 13:52, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also you have rbkmedia.no for Rosenborg's match data. Jolicnikola (talk) 17:33, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I just wrote for Lyn's results but the results pages are again working (finally)! Jolicnikola (talk) 19:54, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jolicnikola: Here's a reference for Vålerenga's semi-finals and finals from 1949 to 2005: link. You can also find some match reports in newspapers. Example: The semifinal between Strømsgodset and Viking in 1973, but it's difficult to find early rounds. Sørhaug (talk) 12:24, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Did all the finals start at 13:15 CET since the beginning of the competition? Also this is for Vålerenga but only's archive from 1996 to 2003. Jolicnikola (talk) 13:10, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jolicnikola: It seems most finals started at 13:15, but I don't know about all of them. Also, the time is not always displayed in match reports from the early 1900's, so it is better to just omit the time if the match report does not include it. Sørhaug (talk) 09:55, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the site for Brann's match data was recently created (branntall.no), but the archive data has uncomplete (I believe it is still working in progress, so maybe there will be more). Jolicnikola (talk) 14:18, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Norwegian cup results in 1960s

Can you find somewhere the complete results of first and second round of the Norwegian Football Cup from 1960 to 1964 and of 1966 season because that they are not in Norwegian Wikipedia, and I copy those results from that Wikipedia. Jolicnikola (talk) 00:50, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rivalries

Good morning! I have noticed that Category:Football rivalries in Norway is a bit light. We have Vålerenga-Lyn, Vålerenga-Lillestrøm and Rosenborg-Molde. While we definitely should not exaggerate football rivalries, as has been the case with some WP:OR articles that have ended up being deleted, here are some other ideas for rivalries if you're interested:

  • Bodø/Glimt-Tromsø
  • Vålerenga-Brann
  • Viking-Haugesund?-Bryne?-Brann? (Rogaland derby/Vestlandsderby. How fierce are they?)
  • Mjøndalen-Strømsgodset
  • Kongsvinger-Hamkam
  • Fredrikstad-Moss-Sarpsborg

Are there any pre-war or post-war rivalries worth digging into? What about Viking-Stavanger IF, for instance? Odd-Pors? Steinkjer-Rosenborg? Skeid-Vålerenga? Even Start-Donn gave some news hits regarding a rivalry up to the 1960s-1970s. Geschichte (talk) 07:01, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Aalesund

I noticed you edited Aalesund to be alphabetically first in order for 2026 Eliteserien (Draft).
Just to be sure, this is based on English alphabetical order only?
Since atleast in Norwegian alphabetical order, Aa (phonetic Å) is last in order and if two of same name phonetically that start with Aa and Å respectively, then Å comes first and Aa second. Citanoo (talk) 11:34, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Putting double A last in an alphabetical list seems strange to me. The Norwegian Football Federation at least sorts Aa first and Å last. See here. (Click "alle kamper" and sort by "hjemmelag".) Sørhaug (talk) 12:03, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think the reason for this is just English set up in most systems due to ASCII as default. It is the same in writing software such as Word and Excel if you use English as set authoring language. However if you set it to Norwegian (Bokmål), it would reorder Aalesund to the bottom as if the "Aa" is an Å. The reordering is based on the phonetics (sounds) so the "Aa" would be an "Å".
Also according to Store Norske Leksion, Aa words that use the Å sound is sorted as Å in alphabetical order. See here
Now, at the same time. Should we treat names with Aa in the English wiki with the Norwegian language structure in mind or are we ignoring the phonetic Å if that is the case for a name? Citanoo (talk) 12:33, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
English Wikipedia sorts both "aa" and "å" as "a" anyway. So in that case Vålerenga should come before Viking etc. But since we are talking about Norwegian names, it could be argued that Norwegian rules should apply, including sorting "aa" as "å", so that Aalesund goes last in the list.
Norwegian football articles on the English Wikipedia are quite inconsistent on this matter as far as I am aware. Aalesund is often put first in alphabetical lists. I am not sure if there are any guidelines regarding this issue. I could not find any. Sørhaug (talk) 14:28, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Allright. Too bad there are no guidelines about it. I found the general article about alphabetical order but that was for general use and not strictly Wikipedia usage.
There is also an article about order of page names. Not sure if that can be used to solve the answer. It seems to hint more towards the actual order being a choice of the individual editor rather than a set rule.
I also notice categories also sort 0-9 A-Z only and that English Wikpedia for categories are grouping accented characters together (Hence Æ and Å with A, Ø with O). Again that does not state rules for standard sorting in articles using non-English letters (..which it maybe should somewhere).
My guess is: There are no rules about it. The editors themselves decide. Citanoo (talk) 19:08, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. One thing to keep in mind however is consistency across similar articles. Aalesund has been sorted first in all Tippeligaen/Eliteserien articles that I have seen. Vålerenga has been sorted infront of Viking on most season articles, except from 2021-2025. So, the "English" sorting seems to be dominant. It seems reasonable to me to keep using that same "standard". Sørhaug (talk) 19:55, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds good to me! (Especially regarding sorting of "Aa").
I would still prefer Vålerenga after Viking, Åsane at bottom etc. It's just "weird" as a Norwegian to see Æ, Ø and Å as letters 27, 28 and 29 being sorted anywhere else than the bottom after A-Z.
But I don't mind thinking of Æ and Å as A and Ø as O when it comes to sorting or list placements. Citanoo (talk) 20:29, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I apparently had this page on my watchlist. Neither can I find any specific reference in the MOS. But I think one should think about that the general English-language reader has no or very limited knowledge of sorting orders in different alphabets and therefore it should be sorted A, Aa, Ab ... As/Ås ... B. For example, Czech and Slovak alphabets sort the digraph Ch not together with C but with H and I would find it strange if that was followed in English text. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 12:59, 18 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
