Talk:Murder of Jun Lin

Removed from Bibliography section

I have decided to remove the following from the bibliography section:

  • Luka Magnotta – Book Release – Biography – True Crime. ISBN 9781105848834

It has been listed there since 2013. However, I couldn't find any evidence that this book exists. It isn't listed in the American nor the Canadian library catalogue.

There is this video by BioLukaMagnotta, which claims that the book is titled New Born Killers and written by Jos Borsboom. But I couldn't find any more information on that either.

The accompanying website, newbornkillers.com, doesn't exist anymore. And its copy in the web archive doesn't include a lot of information. Adrio (talk) 22:32, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Music Video by metal rock artist SKYND

released Aug 1, 2024, add to media section? 2600:1005:B087:267A:B1B8:ACF9:5EBD:55D7 (talk) 14:02, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This would have WP:POPCULTURE problems unless there was significant coverage in mainstream secondary sources. Wikipedia articles often become bogged down by this type of tangential material. There is some sourcing here, but it doesn't seem blue chip. --♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 15:14, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 16 February 2025

The band Skynd recently released a song and music video about Luka Magnotta, called Violets Are Blue. 2607:FEA8:9942:BC00:ABBD:87C9:9652:F6D (talk) 15:28, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

See the section above. I've had a fresh look for sourcing but there still isn't enough to meet WP:POPCULTURE guidelines. There need to be reliable secondary sources discussing why it is notable.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 17:34, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Misinformation?

It says that Magnotta said that him and Lin met after Lin responded to his Craigslist ad for sex and bondage. However, while it's only stating that this was something Magnotta said, there are multiple leaks of an original ad said that it was for a "movie" he was making, and was made explicitly clear there was no sexual nature involved. The only problem is that the only possible reliable source (but still showcases evidence) is the original ad being shown on the Netflix documentary on episode 2. If anyone can find a better source that showcases this ad, that would be helpful.

The page also states that Lin was tied up on the bed, but many articles state that there was a third anonymous man involved such as this one. Dawnisurenemy (talk) 18:14, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong James Dean link?

This sentence in the perpetrator section links almost certainly to the wrong James Dean:

“Police stated that Magnotta set up at least 70 Facebook pages and 20 websites under different names. Magnotta would use these pages and multiple false online identities to "sing his own praises" (one page called him "The new James Dean"), attack people he disliked, or spread false information about himself in an effort to attract attention.”

Given the broader context, in calling himself the “new James Dean,” Magnotta was almost certainly not referring to the 1950s Hollywood star of that name, but to the porn actor under the stage name "James Deen", which either the original source or Magnotta himself misspelled. ~2026-83495 (talk) 03:56, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
