This line under The brahmical literature- "While others often described them as a 'mixed-origin' caste with Brahmin and Shudra components." Should be changed to- "while other often described them as Brahmins." Sources-Panchamisva(aranyakas) and some govt archives. Prompt changes is expected as it is hurting sentiments of a particular community and may result in communal distress. 2405:201:D004:7127:CC5D:33A5:216C:1AD8 (talk) 09:39, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Kayastha are Superior to Brahmins and Kshatriyas

Kayasthas are traditionally regarded as superior to both Brahmins and Kshatriyas in certain Hindu beliefs and historical records, particularly among the North Indian Kayastha communities.

      1. Reason 1: Divine Origin from Brahma’s Chitta (Mind)

According to ancient texts such as *Kayastha Mahatmya* and *Chitragupta Smriti*, Lord Chitragupta—the progenitor of the Kayastha community—was created from the **chitta** (consciousness or mind) of Lord Brahma. In contrast, Brahmins were created from Brahma’s **mouth**, and Kshatriyas from his **arms**, representing the body’s physical parts.

The *chitta* is considered the most refined, divine, and non-material part of Brahma, associated with wisdom, intelligence, and moral judgment. Therefore, this origin places Kayasthas **above all other varnas**, as they are born from thought and knowledge, not from flesh.

      1. Reason 2: 1779 Banaras Brahmin Declaration

In 1779 AD, the **scholars and Brahmin priests of Banaras** presented an official **written declaration to the Peshwa Court**, stating that Kayasthas were **superior to both Brahmins and Kshatriyas**, owing to their unique divine origin from Brahma’s mind. This document is referenced in Kayastha historical works and archival records.

      1. North Indian Kayastha Lineages

In North India, the Kayastha community is composed of several prominent sub-clans and surnames such as **Srivastava, Sinha, Mathur, Nigam, Saxena, Karna, Bhatnagar, Gaur, Asthana, Kulshreshtha, Surajdhwaj, and Ambashtha**. These lineages have historically held administrative, scholarly, and legal positions under Mughal and British rule, and continue to be influential in modern India.
