Talk:Apostolic succession

Revert

I’m not seeing the idea behind reverting this edit. John Zizioulas appears not only be the most influential Orthodox theologians in recent years but a real expert with strong research credentials.

His education began with study at the Universities of Thessaloniki and Athens in 1950, and then a year at the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey in 1955. Between 1960 and 1964 Zizioulas did doctoral research under…Georges Florovsky; Chair of Eastern Church History at Harvard…and was a Fellow at Dumbarton Oaks Center for Byzantine Studies. He received his doctorate in 1965 from the University of Athens. Zizioulas took up a post at the University of Athens in 1964 as assistant professor of Church history, and… worked as professor of patristics at the New College, Edinburgh from 1970 until 1973. He moved to the University of Glasgow where he held a personal chair in systematic theology for some fourteen years. In addition, Zizioulas also was a visiting professor at the Research Institute in Systematic Theology of King's College London. Birjeta01 (talk) 19:13, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Birjeta01: I initially could not find evidence that the source was an RS, and it looked suspect on first glance. After your ping, I found a digitized, albeit unpaginated, version. The author's expertise checks out and the source itself seems to have been written with profuse citations to primary and secondary sources, so its publication by a sectarian press seems like a non-issue. Having compared the added text against the digitized version, I'd say the addition can stand. Thanks for sanity-checking my revert. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 19:37, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That’s great to hear! I mainly skimmed over the author’s credentials, but I’m glad that the scholarship in Eucharist, Bishop, Church stands to scrutiny as I expected, or at least hoped. I would like to thank you for your constructive engagement and prompt response! - Birjeta Birjeta01 (talk) 19:49, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for scrutinizing my actions so civilly! The relevant portion that I believe encompasses the cited page 123 is found in part 1.2 of the digitized version found here. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 19:54, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Independent sacramental movement

It is kinda weird that Sedevacantism or other Independent Catholics are not mentioned here but the LDS Braganza (talk) 08:16, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Structure

I think the structure is confusing. You have "Churches claiming apostolic succession" which lists the main groups but also a few smaller ones. Then you have "Teachings" but especially the "Lutheran churches" section is once again a list of (smaller) Churches claiming apostolic succession. Finally, you have Criticism which is just Teachings of Protestants who reject the idea. Braganza (talk) 14:28, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to make changes, particularly additions supported by reliable sources or removals of content that lack such sourcing. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 16:59, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, i will try my best. Braganza (talk) 17:16, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
