The Volvo ES90 (internal code V551) is a large electric vehicle produced by Swedish car manufacturer Volvo from 2025.[2]
The sedan is set to be officially revealed on 5 March 2025.[3]
Overview
The Volvo ES90 is based on the technical platform SPA2 dedicated to Volvo high-end vehicles, which is notably equipped with its SUV derivative EX90 or its cousin Lotus Eletre.[4]
Key features
- Core Computing: The ES90 features a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Tegra#Orin configuration, providing around 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS). This high level of computational power manages functionalities such as AI-based active safety features, car sensors, and efficient battery management.
- AI and Safety: The primary core computer offers an eightfold improvement in AI compute performance compared to Nvidia Tegra#Xavier, enabling the gradual increase of deep learning model parameters from 40 million to 200 million. This aims to improve customer experience and safety levels.
- Superset Tech Stack: Built on the SPA2 architecture, the ES90 is the second car based on the Superset tech stack, following the EX90. This stack allows for efficient over-the-air updates, enhancing connectivity features, safety improvements, and overall car performance.
- Safe Space Technology: The ES90 incorporates an advanced array of sensors, including one Lidar, five radars, seven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors, along with an advanced driver monitoring system. These systems are designed to detect obstacles and activate proactive safety measures, such as collision avoidance, even in darkness.[3]
