Some Advice

Hello, LaughingManiac,

Regarding your comment on WP:ANI about the weaponization of schizophrenia, since you have chosen to self-identify as schizophrenic, I think it might be a wise idea to consider changing your username to something more neutral that can't be used as a weapon against you and doesn't color other editors' perceptions of you as an editor. I'm just talking now as a fellow editor who skimmed through your report on ANI, not as an administrator. I just think that there are people out there who might have prejudice against your condition and your username reinforces some of these negative and baseless opinions on this mental health condition. But, of course, it's your choice. Happy editing! Liz Read! Talk! 23:00, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Liz, thank you for your concern.
The truth is, this username predates my diagnosis. But of course, you make a very fair point, and I have thought about changing it. Given my recent areas of contribution, I think it might be a good idea at this point. Do you know whereabouts to do so? LaughingManiac (talk) 23:34, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All right, I've figured it out. Thanks for the suggestion, and the invitation to the Teahouse! NewBorders (talk) 18:47, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your thread has been archived

Teahouse logo

Hello NewBorders! The thread you created at the Teahouse, "Global" vs "simple" username change request, has been archived because there was no discussion for a few days.

You can still read the archived discussion. If you have follow-up questions, please .

See also the help page about the archival process. The archival was done by lowercase sigmabot III, and this notification was delivered by KiranBOT, both automated accounts. ANI Discussion

[A note, for archiving clarity's sake, that this was originally a notice about this ANI thread, left by user Akechi The Agent Of Chaos (which I am not linking to in order not to needlessly ping them at this time). My unfortunate, and accidental, deletion of an angle bracket from a bot message broke the notice, so this was rewritten by the user who fixed said deletion. Hence the confusing-looking notice here.]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is User:Jwa05002 and User:RowanElder Making Ableist Comments On WP:Killing of Jordan Neely Talk Page, Threats In Lead. The discussion is about the topic Topic. Thank you. Tarlby (t) (c) 02:36, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
Here's a shiny barnstar dedicated to your messages at ANI and specifically this fantastically constructed comment. Are you a sockpuppet? Tarlby (t) (c) 02:36, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, you managed to accidentally delete some code from the above bot message a few months ago which broke some talk page functions. Fixed it though :) Tarlby (t) (c) 02:38, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much! I thought I had an issue with my browser (or alternatively, that I was going insane), and was actually about to ask at the Teahouse. I now see that I accidentally deleted an angle bracket a few months back.
and to be clear, I am no sockpuppet (although I did change my username), merely a now-long-time lurker of the ANI page :) NewBorders (talk) 03:01, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Integrity
Appreciate how you are more versed in proper courtly ANI language than a veteran editor like me who tends to get hawkish every one in a while.

Aw, thanks! Honestly, I don't think you handled that particularly badly, and I've definitely seen you be more abrasive before, but this is appreciated regardless. NewBorders (talk) 16:27, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Special Barnstar
Dear NewBorders,

I am honored to award you the Special Barnstar for your endorsement of WP:NOCONFED. Your support and contribution to combating Neo-Confederate trash on Wikipedia is appreciated more than you think. Cheers!
