Caitlin Begg is an American ethnomethodological sociologist, entrepreneur, and podcast host. Begg's main research focus is hypercommunication, and other areas of concentration include workplace design,[1] technology's effect on interpersonal relationships,[2][3][4] artificial intelligence,[5][6][7][8] and generations.[9][10][11]

Education

Begg earned a degree in Sociology from Harvard University, where she completed an honors thesis on digital communication and its effects on social relationships.[12]

Career

Begg founded Authentic Social in 2016, focused on sociotechnical systems strategy.[13][14] She is the host of Progression to Analog,[15] and has spoken about both her research and podcast at major conferences across the United States and Europe including Brain Bar, re:publica, Tech Open Air, and World Summit AI.[16] She also has presented research and educational seminars at major universities around the world, including Columbia University,[17] Technical University of Munich,[18] and Lund University,[19] and Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.[5]

Begg has collaborated with Harvard Business School professor Amy Edmondson, sharing insights about psychological safety's relationship to technology.[20] They spoke at re:publica together in Berlin in May 2024 about these topics.[21]

One of Begg's findings was featured in Jennifer Moss's 2025 Book "Why Are We Here? Creating a Work Culture Everyone Wants", published by Harvard Business Review Press. Moss cites Begg's work and research as a method of reducing technostress in the workplace—specifically, designating asynchronous communication as more suitable for exchanges of information, and synchronous communication for collaboration and connection.[22]

Begg has presented her research at academic and industry conferences across the United States and Europe, discussing topics related to digital communication, AI adoption, and sociotechnical design. She has contributed to discussions on the role of hypercommunication in causing difficulty in modern life.[23]

She is also the host of the podcast Progression to Analog.[24]

Other

Begg is six foot one inches tall, and a former division one athlete.[25]

Taller women often have problems finding pants with sufficiently long inseams for their height. Caitlin Begg, host of Progression to Analog podcast, and a 6-foot-1 former division-one athlete, says she can never find jeans that are long enough and fit right. Until, that is, she stumbled upon the Denham store during a visit to Amsterdam in 2022. "I have no financial incentive to say this but their jeans are incredible!" she gushes. Wide-leg jeans in particular look great on tall women, says Begg
