Tooltips on mobile
Mathglot, regarding, "On mobile devices, tooltips are typically accessed through long press (tap-and-hold) or single tap on the associated element." Perhaps I don't understand what it means, but I tried on two different phones and different browsers can't get the tooltip from {{abbr}} or {{tooltip}} to display with any kind of press. When I searched online, I just see pages saying that it doesn't work on mobile and offering ideas to create mobile tooltips with CSS & JavaScript. Rjjiii (talk) 21:16, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Rjjiii: thanks for the feedback; I have reverted that until this can be sorted. What happens when you single-tap this text on mobile? It should also be decorated with dotted underline; is it? Mathglot (talk) 21:41, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, never mind; I was seeing simulated hover text, so the original doc was correct. My error. Mathglot (talk) 21:46, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
- It's all good. Tbf, it is pretty odd for mobile browsers to render the dotted underline (....) below abbreviations if they don't offer any way to access the text. Rjjiii (talk) 02:56, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
Just a reminder
Abbr shouldn't be this: United States or this: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Tjaž Forint (talk) 05:34, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

- Your first example is pointless, and the second is the wrong way round: it should be UK --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:44, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Oh wait, TjazForint do you mean that we don't have examples of how not to use the template backwards? I don't know if that's a common enough problem to put in the "/doc" page. The link issue and the accessibility issue are something that are more common and potentially confusing; that's why they have examples, Rjjiii (talk) 21:13, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
