Bell Rock Lighthouse
Hi BobSchrage. Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for your edit to Bell Rock Lighthouse which moved an external link into the “See Also” section. That section is for internal links only (please see MOS:SEEALSO) – external links have their own section further down the article, so I’ve moved your external link into that section. --Northernhenge (talk) 22:48, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
Update – I've just done the same on these pages:
- Flannan Isles Lighthouse
- Barns Ness Lighthouse
- St Abb's Head Lighthouse
- Noss Head Lighthouse
- Kinnaird Head Lighthouses
Thanks for the work you're doing. --Northernhenge (talk) 15:11, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, I keep finding it difficult how to deal with copyright rights. As also indicated on (Copy text from other sources: It's unfortunately common for new or inexperienced editors to become frustrated when content they have copied from websites they own.)
- All information that you find, read, research or gather somewhere is never free, unless it is explicitly released. In my case (Lighthouses) it is difficult to write an article without general information from third parties.
- A question I have, for example, is: why is it allowed to make an external link to, for example, the Northern Lighthouse Board, but not to my own website (Or is that allowed, after all this website is generally accessible).
- All images that I have made and placed myself, are all registered with Wikimedia Commons under BobSchrage. These are not categorized, which perhaps should have been the case. Can this still be changed?
- Where can I remove incorrect images (placed by myself)?
- BobSchrage (talk) 13:38, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
- I see that one of your files on Commons is AilsaCraig band.jpg. I looked for Category:Ailsa Craig and found Category:Ailsa Craig Lighthouse, which looked like the best one to use. At the bottom of the AilsaCraig band.jpg page, there is the word “categories” and a (+) sign to the right of it. If you click on the (+), you can add the category.
- To arrange deletion, there might be a better way but here’s one method:
- Look at Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. You probably want G1 but look through all of them. Then go to the image you want deleted. There is a “Nominate for deletion” link down the right hand side of the screen. It prompts you for a rationale. Mention G1 (or whatever) and mention it’s your own image.

- Hi,
- On the page "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boddam,_Aberdeenshire", I would like to remove the Buchan Ness lighthouse and give this lighthouse its own page. I have already created this page at "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buchan_Ness_lighthouse".
- But when I put this in the search bar (Chrome) it does not come up or I have to enter the exact page. (Does it take some time before this is processed in wiki?
- In the list "Lighthouses of the Northern Lighthouse Board" that is on every page of Scottish lighthouses, Buchan Ness is also listed. I have adjusted this template but I am still directed to the "Boddam page. How can I adjust this?.
- Would you like to help me?

Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; however, please remember the essential rule of respecting copyrights. Edits to Wikipedia, such as your edit to the page Northern Lighthouse Board, may not contain material from copyrighted sources unless that text is available under a suitable free license. It is almost never okay to copy extensive text out of a book or website and paste it into a Wikipedia article with little or no alteration, though you can clearly and briefly quote copyrighted text in the right circumstances. Content that does not comply with this legal rule must be removed. For more information on this, see:

- Specifically, please see the pages on donating copyrighted material and citing your own work. REAL_MOUSE_IRL talk 14:17, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- I have only change the Northern Lighthous Board page with onw material. So I do not no what you mean.BobSchrage (talk) 14:44, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- That is why I have pointed you to the page on donating copyrighted material. There is a formal process to this, as we can't just take it on face value. Please do not add text copy-pasted from your website unless it has specifically been donated.
- I'd also strongly recommend you look at the other link above on self-citing. It says
"adding numerous references to work published by yourself and none by other researchers is considered to be a form of spamming"
. REAL_MOUSE_IRL talk 14:50, 24 March 2025 (UTC)- Can you please point out to me as a new user exactly where I made a mistake. In other words; what did I do wrong on the NLB page?
- I want to fully adhere to the wiki rules. BobSchrage (talk) 15:09, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- The material on your website is under copyright, we can't just assume you are giving up that copyright because someone with the same name is adding it to articles, so you need to either not copy text from the website, or donate the material before copying it. REAL_MOUSE_IRL talk 15:24, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
Hi BobSchrage. You own the copyright on material that you create and publish on your own website. You don't own the copyright on any text on Wikipedia. Therefore if you want to donate your text to Wikipedia (and many thanks to you if you decide to do that) you need to release your copyright. There is advice about how to do that on the links that REAL_MOUSE_IRL provided. (The other issue is that by posting several links from Wikipedia to your own web site, there comes a point where those links are regarded as spam. That's what the Wikipedia:REFSPAM link explains.) --Northernhenge (talk) 15:23, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
Problems with upload of File:BuchanNess dome.gif
Thanks for uploading File:BuchanNess dome.gif. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.
To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 17:30, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
Recent edit reversion
In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.
I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.
I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. ~~~~ S Philbrick(Talk) 15:58, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
- Dear, I do not understand at all the intervention on the Wikipedia page of the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse. To the best of my knowledge, there has been no infringement of the copyright of anyone or anything.
- Important information such as the limited range of the light from 24 to 18 nmi, as stated on the website of the Northern Lighthouse Board, has simply been removed.
- In addition, I had made an animation in which the "light" is better expressed because of the graphic representation. I made this myself and registered it with Wiki Commons and included it in the category of Ardnamurchan.
- In addition, I have given the foghorn a bit more attention by displaying the image a bit larger and providing it with a text. This change has also been removed. Again, the reason why is not clear to me. I would like to see my changes back.

Speedy deletion nomination of Buchan Ness lighthouse

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Buchan Ness lighthouse requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from flickr.com/photos/-danophotography/44489929725. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Onel5969 TT me 20:53, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
