Channel8 (Kurdish: کەناڵ٨) is a contemporary media outlet consisting of television, radio, and digital channels. The channel was established in 2023 and is headquartered in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region.[1] [2] While Channel 8 is affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdista (PUK), it emphasizes its commitment to unbiased reporting and its freedom from political, religious, and geographical boundaries. [3]
Broadcasts
On December 18, 2024, Channel8 began broadcasting live in Kurdish (Sorani and Kurdish dialects) and Arabic. The channel is available 24 hours a day on Hotbird, Nilesat, and Galaxy 19 satellites.[4]
Channel8 Digital Media
Channel 8's digital media platform broadcasts news and information in Kurdish, Arabic, English, Persian, and Turkish, catering to a diverse audience across different regions.[5]
Award
Channel8 has received international recognition for its branding. At the 2024 NYX Awards, the channel was awarded two gold medals. Additionally, Channel8 received a bronze medal at the Eyes & Ears of Europe awards[6][7]
