These horses are pulling a sled which has several (I heard quarter-ton, but I could be wrong) blocks on it. To compete in this way, they march the horses up to the sled, hitch them to it as quickly as they can, then the man in blue (at right) starts yelling and hollering "ya! ya!" and similar syllables as loudly and insistently as he can; the horses respond by dragging the sled for all they're worth. It's apparently an extraordinarily popular event at the fair, and it looks really nifty when you stop the motion like this. Thanks, burning might of the daystar! 2/IMG_6185 |
