This photograph was taken in front of the National War Memorial, Wellington. | Photographed using a Sony fixed-lens compactcamera | Camera timestamp information in UTC | Metadata timestamp 08-Jan-2025 23:25:04 +0000 (UTC) | More background. The Waitangi Solidarity Hīkoi 2024 was organized by the Pōneke Anti-Fascist Coalition and took place in Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington on Waitangi Day on Tuesday 6 February 2024. The protest was directly related to the nascent Treaty Principles Bill legislation, which was formally introduced to the New Zealand parliament later that year in November 2024. If passed into law, the proposed legislation would redefine the principles by which the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti)should be interpreted by courts and effectively extinguish the indigenous rights granted in that long-standing agreement.
