Question from Tyrell Sunday (19:54, 11 February 2025)

Hello Berchanhimez,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Tyrell_Sunday

Somebody has messaged me pointing out issues with my wiki page for List of 1976 box office number-one films in the United Kingdom, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_1976_box_office_number-one_films_in_the_United_Kingdom). They're threatening to delete it speedily. I fail to find the flaws. I could use some help. I just want to know what I did wrong so I can fix it. I worked so hard on this page, I don't want to see it go. -Tyrell Sunday --Tyrell Sunday (talk) 19:54, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Tyrell Sunday: I get it - having tags placed on an article and/or having it potentially deleted is stressful. That said, I can find no evidence they actually ever placed a speedy deletion request on the article. Perhaps they selected the wrong notification when they were placing a tag on it for the references being only bare links? That said, I would personally worry about something like this being a violation of Wikipedia not being an indiscriminate database of information. I'd recommend you ask at the talkpage for the Film wikiproject about whether lists of number 1 box office films per week are appropriate on Wikipedia, and if so, what the best way to handle them is. A WikiProject is basically an informal grouping of editors with similar interests, and so posting there will likely attract the attention of others interested in improving cinema/movie/film pages on Wikipedia who can offer you more solid recommendations for it. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 21:18, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Badvick (15:21, 17 February 2025)

Hello! How do I make a link to an article while editing. You know like those hyper links. --Badvick (talk) 15:21, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Badvick: Hey! So to add a link to another Wikipedia article, you use the following syntax: NAME OF ARTICLE. As an example, if I wanted to link to the article Wikipedia, I'd use the code "The website Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia" and it would produce the following: The website Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia.
If you want to link words to an article that aren't the title, you use the following: the words you want displayed. As an example, if you wanted to say "There is a website that is a free encyclopedia", with the words "a website" linked to the article on Wikipedia, you would type "There is a website that is a free encyclopedia" which would display: There is a website that is a free encyclopedia.
Be cautious when using the "piped link" technique to display something other than the article title - it should be clear to the reader what the link will take them to. See this guideline page for information on it. Note that's a good way to use a piped link :) -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 22:16, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Mensa delphica (21:48, 27 February 2025)

Hi! What should I do if I come across a sentence that doesn't really make sense (where I'm not sure what the original author intended)? --Mensa delphica (talk) 21:48, 27 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Mensa delphica: Hey! There's a few options for you to take. The first option is to simply remove it if you don't think it provides any useful information to the article. Note that your removal may be challenged by others (either by asking you why you removed it, or by just undoing it), in which case you'd want to talk to others on the talk page (found by clicking the "talk" tab at the top of the article above the title) to try and figure out a way forward.
Alternatively, you may find it useful to look through any citations at the end of the sentence or nearby (the paragraph it's in, etc) and see if you can figure out what the intent of the sentence was. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 22:19, 27 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
